I am more concerned that if this is normal than my current Panerai watch will end up like this watch.

Seal degradation over time with exposure to moisture will do it. You can take active steps to prevent it by having your watch water pressure tested and avoid moisture if you think there may be an issue. Yours won't necessarily end up like that one anytime soon if that is your concern.
