No hole lugs...

I'm currently starting to research the purchase of a used 16613 Sub, with
champagne Serti dial, to replace my P model 16610.
I've run across several on ebay that fit the bill, but want to get the no hole lug
model.
I was under the assumption that that version of the sub started with the D series in 2005,
but have run across some watches that are F series advertised
and don't have the holes.
My question is which model year started the no hole version, the F or the D?
Thanks for any help to a new guy at the forum,
Jack

Sub Lugs - stopped at Y Serial...

Jack,

I recently got a Y serial sub. Was told this was the last year for lug holes - 2002/2003.

However, there were some Y serials without holes. All Fs should not have holes as far as I know.

The changeover was during the Y release for most SS models...... So some Y's will have them, and others not...

F, D, Z, M, V, and some Y should all be no holes. I am currently researching the same watch, 16613, and am looking for an M or V with the rehaut etching. I'm still not sure I want to spend the money right now though. Good luck in your search!

FWIW, my understanding has been that the transition between holes and no holes happened late in the Y series.

Good luck in your search.

Now I like the lug holes... When I eventually get my GMT Coke, I think it should be a lug hole model...

Although I would take a mint non-hole / NO REHAUT engraving. The latter really cheezes me off.

I was in branding and marketing for a number of years, but that engraving is Obnoxious IMHO.

We seem to be on the same boat on this, Bill

I really like my 16610 with the case holes and SEL, so ended up chasing down an early Y serial (thanks DavidSW!). It makes the watch look more tool-worthy

However with my Explorer II, I quickly tired of the holes and eventually traded for a no holes case which was 6 serials newer (thanks AlexCollector!).

I still can't get myself to like the engraved rehaut. Makes the dial look very busy IMO.

y F Series 16710 GMT II was without Lug holes, pure Luck, as I had no clue at the time.

My M series 16613 is of course, no lug holes, but WITH engraved Rehault, and I wanted it that way!

I wanted the engraved Rehault, because my 16710 has not. I canīt say, which I like more, I wanted them to DIFFER!

( And I bought the 16613 because I like the smaller hour markers and the slimmer hands, as compared to the 116613. And the smaller case! )

F was introduced AFTER the Y series.

All F's will have NO lug holes.

The lug holes disappeared at the very end of the Y series.....so the earlier and mid-Y models will have lug holes.

After that, all watch cases were without lug holes.

That's because it's a 14060M, my friend. Even the very latest V-series 14060M will have lug holes.

Read my post just above yours giving a correct account of the lug-hole saga.

Cheers - JJ

All F's will have NO lug holes.

I see your post reference the saga, JJ, and was not aware that Rolex differentiated their cases between a date watch and a non-date watch.

Well, for some unknown reason, Rolex insist on maintaining the lug-hole look on the no-date Sub as well as the older non-SEL bracelet.

Only recently, they gave it a COSC rating and the ROLEX inscription around the rehaut ring. Other than that, no changes at all.

Except for this model, all F's come with NO lug holes.

Correct, Sir, as of the late M series - the 14060M will all now be COSC certified. I am glad to have been set straight on the lugs holes for the ND's.

Thanks.

Spot on my friend. The 14060M, COSC or not ,is the last of a breed. Lug holes and of course the old style 93150 bracelet with the old style diver's extention.

Nice Sub Mike....

I thought about the no date or Seadweller for a long time...Love my classic, but may have to get one of these some day. After my GMT Coke and maybe one other flavor.
