Which Rolex looks best on a leather strap?

Hi everyone. I want to get a leather strap for one of my Rolex. I have quite a broad collection ranging from datejust to sky dwellers, to Daytona’s I have one of most models.

I want a really really smart looking watch with an black alligator type strap. The sky dweller is my favorite watch but although I haven’t tried it on I feel like it would be too big to look smart on the leather strap, anyone have a difference of opinion?

It will have to be a yellow gold watch for me on the leather, so the daydate 36 is the most obvious choice. But it has a silver dial so I’d have to swap out for a champagne or black dial personally.

Also where can I buy high quality leather straps to fit Rolex, assuming they’re not original.

I’m open to buying a new watch for this aswell.

Any thoughts, opinions and pictures are welcome!

I don’t believe modern pieces work well on leather straps. I think a nice cheap 70’s or 80’s Datejust or DayDate looks best on leather.

Agreed. I haven't seen a single modern Rolex (other than the Cellini) where a leather strap was an upgrade in looks.

Good point about the Cellini. A watch I very like I have tried on a few times and passed. Mainly because it’s rose gold though and no yellow version available.

Six digit sports models look strange on anything other than steel.

Cellini for sure.

I tried on a RG 36mm DayDate on black strap a couple of months ago. Not really my style but I thought it had a really understated elegant look to it compared to a full bracelet model. These are currently discontinued but this dealer was offering me a hefty discount had I bought it.
I also think the same of the older gold Daytonas on leather straps. I like the current Oysterflex Daytonas but that’s a whole different look.

Love the DD on strap. I'm hoping for a new release in the 40mm size.

Cellini's/vintage DJ/DDs look great on leather. I happen to like the modern OP36 on leather but as others have stated, the bracelet is really well design and Rolex have spent a considerable time really making them one unit.

This is an option, an expensive option anyway that I have been looking at. I absolutely love it. Not tried one on though and have never owned a PP

Just get what you like.
Any colour, any size, shape and quality.
I have a leather strap on a black Daytona

And on a white one

And they seem perfect for me. I feel it is more comfortable with leather than with bracelet.

I think this one looks great on leather, especially with the end-pieces.

That's beautiful. I wear my GMT on a black croc strap and it looks great, but that would certainly be a very nice upgrade. Does it actually use curved springbars, or is it standard straight bars with extra curved material at the end?

I see that the pin buckle version is on the website, but not yours using the Rolex clasp. Was it more expensive?

(*edit* Or is it just a "standard" block-integrated strap between the lugs à la Rubber B or Everest? In the pics, looks like it rotates a bit, but maybe I'm imagining.)

If you’re ok with 36-37mm you can get a used yellow gold Calatrava for 12-15k.

That’s pretty close to what you’d pay for a modern Cellini.

I believe there is a slight charge for utilizing the glidelock clasp as well as the integrated lugs. It utilizes straight spring bars, the end of the strap is contoured to match the case

Purposefully ignoring Cellini which was made to be worn with leather, I’d say that 214270 looks great along with 14060. Modern GMT and subs look awful on straps. Just not proportioned properly for it.
