My "rule" of ebay or CL is never buy anything over 100 bucks...if you get scammed its not a huge loss

Looks like this guy may be smarter than you think. Global Workplaces seems to be one of those places where you can rent office space by the hour. He could have just been there on their network when he posted the listing and replied to emails.

You should try calling Global Workplaces and talking to their head of security. Give them the info you have and you may get lucky. They certainly don't want this type of thing happening on their property.

i thought about that (if he didnt work there). however, the ip used was a static ip and with the time date stamp of the header info, global should be able to tell you who was using that ip at that day and time.

I assume nobody witnessed the trade. He can say that is not the watch he gave you and can produce a $10 fake and say you gave that to him. Of course it will never get that far.

This is totally a civil case as no common carrier or banks were involved. It is your word against his.

You can also google and yahoo his phone number and email address daily and see if he has any other ads posted for sale and or trade. Perhaps just another way to trace him and lock him down.

Just type his phone number or email address in the search engines and anything on the web containing them will come up. Also, try Dogpile.com for a search engine. It combines search engines. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!

unfortunately, zlin08033 is right. it's basically your word against his.

may i make a recommendation? the next time you do a face to face transaction, do it in an AD, so that they can witness it and take a quick look before you close the deal...

also, a word to the wise... craigslist isn't what it used to be... there are a lot of people out there that have ruined a good thing for the rest of us... so, be cautious and stay safe...
