Over 90% of watches contain dangerous bacteria

https://nypost.com/2023/08/17/apple-...teria-experts/

Study was on smartwatches, but should also apply to Rolex and regular automatic watches. Clean your watches!

Rubber and plastic wristbands were found to have higher bacterial counts, while metal ones — particularly gold and silver — had little to no bacteria.

Problem solved, just buy PM Rolex.

Since animal skins, rubber, and cloth have been in use for straps over 100 years, I’m wondering how it hasn’t been an issue before this?

Mine are metal bracelets and a quick ultrasonic clean suffices.

An ancillary question might be “how did staph & e.coli get on the straps?”

Add: Wash your darn hands!

There is bacteria everywhere. Just live a clean life. Clean your house, and wash yourselves and your watches. Common sense……

Nothing new. Has been a topic on and off for years. I throughly wash mine in antibacterial soap and a old soft tooth brush at least every 2-3 days. Attention is given between the links and clasp. Bezel and lug area as well. This ritual is followed by a stream of luke warm water running from the faucet.

I have worked on watches that were simply disgusting with a incredible amount of build up. I have also seen this while trying on preowned watches. Keep hand sanitizer handy when doing this.

I wear my watch 24/7-365. Hygiene goes a long way in reducing wear in a bracelet also. It's just part of routine maintenance for me.

Germs are everywhere, that's why we have this thing called the immune system.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I saw this morning three dead from listeria in their milkshakes from Frugal’s restaurant in Tacoma, Wa. Note to self: don’t eat at places called Frugal’s and the like.

The article is about wristbands.
Metal watches aren't the issue.

Maybe we need more silver watch straps?

Bacteria on your watch is baby poop [pun intended] compared to your phone.

Reason #15 why you should wear your timepiece while swimming in your pool. :)
