Fortunately the media scared everyone into wearing masks and getting vaccinated to protect them from the storm. The evidence shows that it worked

Crazy how they delayed school tomorrow and closed most restaurants around town!

I think the so called brunt of it hits SC at around 5 PM.

So while we’re sitting around waiting we decided to have an earthquake. First one I’ve felt in at least 20 years.

Wasn’t much here which is fairly close to Ojai. Only shook a little for maybe 3-5 seconds.

There are boulders rolling off hillsides and flash flooding in the hills east of SD. And a tornado warning.

So it ain’t nearly over yet.

Thanks! It was only a 5.1 and there were supposedly aftershocks (3.1 & 3.6) but I didn't feel any.

Large tropical storms/hurricanes/typhoons can cause earthquakes. Happens in my neck of the woods, too.

Flash floods on roads, overflowing wash and storm drains here in Vegas. They evacuated all the families camping out in lake mead and willow beach as well.

Almost 20 years ago, my wife and I were in Osaka during a typhoon when an earthquake hit Niigata. The Shinkansen derailled and we were stuck, soaking wet, walking the streets of Osaka looking for a hotel with vacancy. We spent the night in a love hotel, the first place we could find.

Unfortunately, it's an almost no-win situation for the local authorities.

If they don't say it has potential to be a major disaster and people don't react, then they are responsible for not warning everyone. If they overreact (as in this case) and it's a nothing-burger, then they are criticized for that. I wouldn't want to be one of the people who has to make this call.

There isn’t a lot of gas in the tank left for this storm. Mostly light to moderate rain in SO CAL. Lots of blue, green and yellow. There is a heavy band of rain heading towards Nevada (some orange and red).

Total rainfall for San Diego will be less than one inch. LA might get about 1.65”.

For perceptive, a typical tropical storm in Florida produces about 15” of rain.

Gotta say I believe in being prepared, but I think this was overhyped! Storm no worse than what we had 3/4 months ago.

From what I have heard, Palm Springs got the brunt of the rain.

I’m guessing the situation in Maui was a factor as well.

People criticized for not enough/any warnings and now here now wanting the same criticism perhaps overplayed the potential damage, although there will still be issues in places that have poor drainage.

Where I am in Thousand Oaks is still getting heavy rain at 7PM. But looks like it’s going to back off in an hour or so.

It is still raining heavy here near the beach in La Jolla, I ventured out and streets were flooded everywhere, and I heard I-8 is closed due to mudslides. It may not have had the forecasted ferocity but it is still a pretty intense storm.

Holy crap. The storm took a sharp left turn towards LA. NOT GOOD! None of the models predicted that.

That happens when the center of circulation wobbles and meteorologists report the new position where it is next pegged.

Local authorities have to be prepared or suffer legal liability. The news media don’t and prey upon peoples fears. It always amazes me how people can be lied to over and over and over and over again and still go back to the same source…

My grandparents lived in Escondido for a while in their 70's. Grandpa took up avocado farming and became quite adept at it. Love the area!

I saw that there were some 50-60 mph gusts in the SD area earlier today. That can do some damage.

Tell me the world isn’t ending

We might’ve received 1/2 inch of rain in the South West area of Las Vegas the last 24 hours. It’s a nice 70 degrees out now. Humidity is at 85% though, overall it’s been a great day although we’ll be back to around 100 degrees by Saturday. The mountain’s received rain which flowed into the washes and drain tunnels towards the lake as designed.

They pre-canceled about 300 flights, that should’ve made everyone happy

SDGE actually was on the ball and had power back up in less than 20 minutes.

It's all about ratings and keeping people tuned in. Higher ratings means higher advertising rates. There isn't a single for-profit media source that doesn't do this.
