Bamford Rolex Customisation
Hi My fellow Rolex Lovers.
Whats does everybody think about the bamford rolex customisation serices, that allows clients to change the colour of the face, hands, date etc. They also make the watch black-on-black b puttting that watch through a PVD blacking process. IMO, they look pretty cool and its always nice to know that you have a one-off customised piece. IMO, the prices seem rather high considering you'll probadly be devaluing the item. Like my Rolex as they come from Switzerland don't need any PVD gimmicks etc.

fully agree. It's like buying a Rolls Royce and putting spinner wheels on it. The designers get paid a hefty salary because they're good at it - why fix it if it ain't broke? If I was to ever change anything on the Rolex, it would be with another Rolex part, not aftermarket.

It seems to me that customization would ruin the resale value...

Customization are for the brave at heart , i personally like it, it seems to push the envelope with rolex watch lines but again it's for the brave at heart ....

I like them the way they come, that's why you spend all this money on the watch....I have a friend that bought a 20 000 dollar Subaru and put 20 000 of mods into it....I said why didn't you just buy a BMW or Lexus? I guess my point is......if you spend that much money on a watch...you shouldn't have to spend more to modify it into a piece that you'll enjoy.

i think throwing good money down the pan springs to mind... one for sale second hand here - if it's £8K for the mods, this guy took some hit...

To each his own. Being a traditionalist I'm not in favour of customisation but I appreciate that some people may have a need to set themselves apart from the crowd with a bit of cosmetic surgery on their watches.
It's their money and their watches and, in some cases (like the PVD service that Bamford offers) I have to admit the results are interesting. |

Project X Designs lets you do similar things and will sell you a current model and let you specify modifications prior to taking delivery of it from them.
Mods that I would actually consider (depending on the model): -Brushed center links on bracelet -Crown guard removal "Bespoke" editions: http://www.projectxdesigns.com/resul...egory-1_0.html |

Customizing is almost always a bad idea. Unless....you never plan to get rid of the item in question. Tasteful upgrades on cars or motorcycles, using (generally) the original manufacturer's parts, or a select few popularly-recognized aftermarket "Farkles", is the only exception to that rule that I know of. Even then, you rarely can get an even return on your investment(s) at resale.

I like the blacked out look especially on a Sub or Daytona. A bit too pricey but I like the look.
