When I changed providers and got a new router, it had dual-band and both SSID had the same name. This caused my Macbook to get confused and take ages to connect to wireless.

I disabled the 2.4 Ghz and all was good. Then I got a new printer, that only operates on 2.4 Ghz, so I re-enabled but changed the name.

You can jump onto your router by typing the IP into your browser, normally 192.168.(0 or 1).(1 or 254) and take a look at the settings.
Thanks. I see other people in my building with those two options beside their name on the available wifi list, but my options are just shown as "name" and "name 5GHz". Couldn't get my iPad online from the bedroom this morning (through two walls), so "forgot" the 5G and it worked just fine. As mentioned above, I think I'll just use 5G for streaming TV. Or maybe not at all. Everything is much faster now.
