Help me identify my dad's old watch.

My dad passed away 3 yrs ago and he left me his first Rolex watch. He hasn't had it fixed, so my plan is to revive it to its old glory.

The photos are really bad to give any kind of valid information. The bracelet end links are concerning. If you want a true evaluation then you need to post very clear photos so that we can see details.

All of the numbers you need to identify your watch are etched on the case under the bracelet end links.

Im sorry, those pics dont help any better than the others. Im going to guess that it is a mid 1960s model 1501 with a fake bracelet.

I remember that he told me these are fake bracelets. Are there still available original replacements?

Absolutely, original and correct bracelets are still available. Most likely it had a model 7835 bracelet if you want the Oyster style bracelet. I believe the end links for that case should be a 257.

Try getting a springbar tool to check the numbers on the side

Need help identifying model

Also need help identifying this heirloom piece. I don’t have it with me right now and can’t check under the end links. All I know is that it is 18k gold, all original crown and bracelet and is from early 1960s.

Please start a new thread. It gets confusing when multiple people are asking about multiple watches in the same thread.

Bracelet looks aftermarket but the clasp may be original.

I think restoring it is a terrific idea, and you will enjoy it very much. I restored (more accurately- got Phillip Ridley to restore) two of my dad’s old watches- a 46 years old Rolex Explorer and a 60 years old Lord Elgin. I wear them both regularly (the Elgin only on Sunday mornings).

I hope you enjoy yours! The formula is simple- start with a great father, and then add an old watch that needs repair. Combining the two leads to a keepsake Worth far more than money can measure.

Looks like a 1501. Lovely watch, light on the wrist, good size and still looks the part.

My first Rolex was a 1501 but stolen at CKY airport. Since replaced, but I now need a bracelet 78350 with 557 end pieces - Rolex want around 1,500 USD!
