At Basel I would like to see a Date I can read...
Hello all,
At Basel I would like to see ROLEX introduce a date which is more proportional in size to the overall face of the watch WITHOUT the need or distraction of a cyclops. Would it not benefit ROLEX to simply enlarge the date so that it can be read; A/ without the need for a cyclops and B/without looking so small and out of proportion on the models it does sell without the cyclops. Every time I look at the face of a DeepSea (and I owned one for six months) I gulp at the tiny size of that date on a watch with such large proportions. Come on - this change can't be a stretch to ask of ROLEX can it? Opinions? |

Not for me, the cyclops is a part of the Rolex mystic and tradition. I like it just the way it is.

I prefer the cleaner look of the SD without the cyclops for my sport watch, so yes, I'd like the date to be a little bit bigger.

Well so far the replies are PRO-cyclops. I could have sworn that I have read some threads by members who like the clean look of a ROLEX sans cyclops...but perhaps not..

Yes, and there are some that do. The non-cyclops crew should be along shortly.

I hope to someday have all the Cyclops removed from all my Submariners, and my GMT

I HATE the cyclops!
I have had it removed from my Exp II and its the reason I used to own the SD and DSSD That being said, I hope they live it exactly how it is! I just hope if they ever add a date to the Daytona they do not mess it up with a cyclops

Love the cyclops especially with the AR coating underneath.
To increase the size of the date digits for larger viewing without the cyclops, Rolex would have to significantly increase the size of the date wheel (likely into two wheels), which would take up room in an already packed case. Not just as simple as "make them bigger". |

At first I didn't really care for the cyclops, and even considered removing it. But now I'm glad I left it alone because I actually love it now. It just took a little while to warm up to it.

They do have new glass technologies that could possibly magnify only a select area... I still like the Cyclops.

Prefer without on the sport models but it is not a dealbreaker either way for me. Love both my Sub-C and my SD 16600.

Here's my Citizen with a date aperture roughly the same size as the Rolex aperture.
This would work well for me, as would Fr. John's. My problem is I'm not into customizing my Rolex watches. I told the watchmaker at my AD the other day when I was looking at the 214270 that I wished that the cyclops were optional and could be installed at the point of sale. He laughed out loud. He said that Rolex would never entrust such a thing to the certified watchmakers. So, really I guess were stuck and I'm good with that. It's just that with my eyesight, the cyclops is an exercise in futility. The Citizen:
