Day date 40 white gold - would love thoughts/feedback
I’m looking to buy my first precious metal Rolex. I’ve decided that white gold is a lot more practical day to day and i am leaning toward day date 40 vs Daytona.
I am looking between these two options. I love the olive green with Roman. I find the olive geeen works better with white gold than rose (I think the rose is nice but would not wear as much) The grey is a new edition, it risks being too similar to date just but it has a lot of textures and the stick dial like could make it more practical. Overall would be a discrete piece. I was not considering the blue Roman’s. It felt a bit more formal than the other two. Would love to hear from folks on the forum who have tried on either olive or grey in person or bought either. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If your desire is to fly under the radar and wear it for yourself, not to impress others, the grey dial/WG is a better choice I think. To the untrained eye it’ll look like a fairly typical watch.

I have seen both on the flesh and between both of them I would prefer the grey stick dial all day every day.
Although white gold is meant to be stealth but with the presidential bracelet, there is no mistaking between a DateJust and a Day Date. Most people who say olive is awesome and they may be the right but under natural light or studio/boutique lights, the dial appears pretty washed up and quite faint. The 3rd picture in your post is heavily edited with high saturation & vibrance. In person the Olive dial is nothing like that. Grey on the other hand is slightly understated and has the right balance of flex but with class. The grey dial is a fairly new addition to the Day Date lineup and I am of the opinion it is a sleeper hit. To be fair, I chose a YG Day Date with white dial.

Cannot go wrong with either. For me, I think the grey stick dial is really beautiful. I like the fact that it is low key and it will fly under the radar to most since it looks similar to a regular stainless steel watch.

I had the WG with the original grey/rhodium strip dial…while it was nice, especially the lume vs. the romans, I recently traded it for the blue romans.
While the rhodium was nice, it just wasn’t special enough…it was too stealth. I did debate between the green and blue. Blue won as I mostly wear blue and it’s my favor color. Good luck with your decision. |

I like the tapestry dials, in both rhodium or silver. Same as stick but a little more interesting.

Grey for me. The olive looks more like a special occasion watch, and stands out a lot more.

I love my WG Olive DD... the grey would be too monochromatic for me.

The grey dial is a waste… might as well get the grey dial DateJust 41 and save you about 30k… and as flying under the radar, no one notices our watched but us Rolex nerds, trust me. I wear my YG DD40 daily and get told regularly “nice Michael Kors watch”

I would go grey dial. Green is a current fad which may go out of style as quickly as it emerged on the scene. Green has always been an acquired taste, at least until recently. Grey will always be a noble understatement.

Go green, or go platinum with the light blue dial.

The olive looks very nice, but the slate dial is the more versatile and a less "trendy" color.
At some point the olive green will go out of trend, and like the green kitchen appliances that were all the rage in the 1970s, the olive green dial will look dated. [/url] |

Get whichever comes first. You can always change the dial.

Much as I love the green dial, those deconstructed Romans have always struck me as silly. The grey one really does look nice. Your money, your choice.

To me, the DD is ideal in a colored PM or platinum - avoiding white gold altogether

My next Rolex will likely be a DD. I would say sticks over Romans every time. Cannot stand the unbalanced look with Romans or the way the day window means there’s a I at the XI marker. Horrible.

The olive is stunning but the sticks in grey sticks looks more modern and versatile for casual or formal wear … just my opinion though! and you should go with what sings to you

Agree with above - Think grey makes it too understated, essentially a bit bland. With a DD then I would want an understated burst of something, that makes me smile and reminds me how special the watch really is. The olive fantastic, but there are also other great dials
