Grey list prices vs. paid

Would love to know what people actually paid on grey mkt vs. what the original list price was. For instance i'm still seeing Subs listed at $12-13,000. I cant imagine folks are still paying that.

I don’t see many 126110 listed on dealer forums less than 12k. I think they are still moving between 12-13k depending on condition. The LV going for around 13.5-15+. Who’s paying those prices, who knows.

I;ve been trying to pick up a 116610 and or 116710/126710…they are all very firm. Even some private sellers who had watches listed for weeks/months won’t budge, my very reasonable offer has to be higher than what they would receive from a grey dealer.

Every Sub that comes into the shop generally sells within a week.
Model 126610ln will bring anywhere from $12,500 to $14,000.

Why can’t you imagine people are still paying that? There is no watches in a AD display case so they are selling for asking price. The market on some models are ticking up.

A Sub Date is now $11k OTD at retail. $12-13k is completely reasonable to skip the AD wait.

I was thinking the same. It seems very reasonable, given the shortage.

Well according to the watch economics gurus, Rolex prices are crashing. Therefore < MSRP like the old days right?

A $1000 or $1500 premium for the 126601ln seems pretty fair to me

You should expect to pay less for a grey market watch, as it does not come with the warranty card.

Best to buy from a second hand dealer or AD, but yes expect to pay less from grey.

Why do you claim that watches from the grey market come without warranty cards? I bought most of my watches from reputable dealers in my country and have used the warranty a few times. Never had any problems.

Guess depends on your definition of grey sellers.

I bought most of my watches new, fully stickered and with warranty cards from grey sellers

Every gray that I have purchased comes as a complete set minus the bezel protector and sometimes the white tag. All have warranty cards, booklets, boxes, etc. This is for a late model BNIB. Used or whatever I dont know. If the watch is new, you will pay more for a gray than MSRP every time. You pay more to have your watch within 3 days as opposed to waiting forever.

I think a lot of secondary market dealers have about 5% to negotiate otherwise they will say firm.

Because at most ADs in the US most people cannot even get on a list and if they do it is still a year or more, unless a chord is struck with the AD.

Seems like Adam Smith had a pretty good handle on the "invisible hand" on in the mid-1700s... nothing since really has changed much and grey market for watches are no different...

Reputable dealers do not sell grey market watches, they sell second hand watches.

Key point that hopefully won't go unnoticed in this other chat.

I thought grey sellers were those that bought unsold stock directly from the AD? Like when unsold Omega watches get sold to grey dealers who sell the same watches at heavily discounted prices.

I'm surprised the in demand rolex watches would go to grey sellers given...their demand.

They don't. Consumers who bought watches sell them to the used watch dealers. Grey markets only exist where there is excess unsold inventory in the normal distribution channels. The excess is dumped into parallel discount vendors who sell it at a discount with or usually without warranty. The Rolex market is the opposite. There is a lack of goods at retail, so the goods trade higher than list price on the used markets, so retail buyers flip them to the used dealers for the quick profit. That is not a grey market, just the pre-owned market.

The terms grey market/dealer and trusted seller has been incorrectly used interchangeably on this forum, and other forms of social media.

Grey market has always referred to unauthorized retailers of factory new product where warranties were never honored as it was never sold through authorized channels and therefore considered “never sold” or grey. A good example of this was the height of the DSLR camera craze where many Nikons and Olympus were purchased from Japanese grey dealers online and whenever owners had issues, Nikon/Olympus USA would not honor the warranty.

The trusted sellers on the forum sell preowned watches. Brand new or not. It was sold to a customer or straight to them by an authorized dealer.

Thank you for this clarification. By this definition i bought my watches preowned. I don’t know any places in NL where they sell grey watches.
