IS it too small for me?

Hi guys.

I just picked up my DDII in Platinum and, while I'm still as in love with the watch as I was years ago when I started thinking I wanted one, I'm not sure if it isn't too small for me...

I'm 6ft 3, heavy set and used to wearing larger watches (Omega 45.5 Planet Ocean Chrono has been my go-to watch for the last year), chromos etc... as they suit my large, 8.5/9 inch wrist.

I've attached a piccy, let me know what your thoughts are. I love the watch, I love the dial, the case - I'm totally besotted with the bracelet, it's soooo comfortable and I find myself looking at the clasp all the time...

Tell me I've not made a huge mistake!

I think it looks great on you Chris, and not to small at all!

I second that. I think it looks great on your wrist. In fact, it looks such a good fit that I am surprised that you have an 8.5/9 inch wrist going by that photo.
You have, in my eyes, maybe the most superb watch out there. No need to worry, just enjoy wearing it. Amazing piece

Looks good.

What did you measure your wrist with to get 85/9?

True statement. ^

If you're still not sure send it to me and I'll hold it until you're sure it's "the one." :D

Thanks all for you kind words.

I used a tape measure but I needed 4 extra links (ouch!) and always need at least 3 normally but the president links aren't very big I found.

I think it's just that I'm used to a much bigger case... I think my eye will get used to it - so I'll hold onto it for now, but thanks for the kind offer, DC

I think it's just a lot smaller than I'm used to... For example, there are a lot of DJ Jubilee models that I love the look of (especially the tapestry dial!!) but 36mm is for sure too small for me so I have always avoided those.

I do love it... I think I'm just looking for reassurance that it doesn't look too small on my ham-like appendage

Maybe take a picture from further away ...

I find close up wrist shots to be a bit tough to judge. I can't believe it would look to small even on a large wrist, but I suppose it's a relative to what you are used to wearing.

Honestly, according to objective standards, it looks a little big on your wrist for a dress watch. But somehow you can pull it off. Very nice watch.

Really? 36mm looks far too small on me, IMO... Am I looking at this all wrong? Do you just mean that, traditionally, 41mm is too large for a dress watch, or that it LOOKS too big?

I'm really lost now lol!

Thank you very much, all the kind words are very much appreciated!

Would the community appreciate more pics, do you think? I realize this is just a phone snap and I think it deserves better... Maybe a little photo shoot tonight, me thinks :)

Look, let me use a couple of examples of how perspective can change.

Remember in the early 90's the trend of big shouldered jackets and suits. Everyone bought them, and people teased you if you wore a natural shoulder (unpadded) suit. Then, in the blink of an eye, big shouldered clothing was OUT of style, and people made fun of those who continued to wear them.

Remember in the 80's the larger eyeglass fad. Suddenly everyone wore them (watch any 1980's TV show) and regular sized glasses looked tiny and outdated. Again, in a snap, the gigantic windshield glasses were OUT of style and people were wearing very small glasses, and people who kept their huge eyeglasses were teased or sniggered at.

So my point is that size is relative (Einstein was right) and we as humans get used to certain sizes - whatever manufacturers deem in style - and other sizes do not look right. Why do manufacturers do this: money. They need motivations for people to sell a perfectly good suit, eyeglasses, or watch and buy the latest "in style" model, thus keeping their profits flowing.

No one will believe this but watch sizes will once again revert to the mean - get back to a more normal size that objectively is in proportion to the wrist.

Bottom line, your watch is as close to the right size as possible, but in the 1950's would have looked large, even on you. But not by much, so it will withstand the changes in style. Humungous PAMs and Invictas: not so much.

Just my opinion, take it for what it is worth.

The average person is getting bigger with every generation (especially so in the parts of the world where people can afford expensive watches), so the mean (in 'proportion to the wrist' as you state) is also increasing.

And the watch looks good Chris. I'd say a photo from further away, even a mirror shot, would give you a better perspective (something to distance it from what your eyes see close up)
