Date Change at midnight

I've been wearing my GMT-IIC for a couple of months and its really nice. My question is regarding the date change at midnight. I noticed that it wouldn't change at exactly 12:00am but in between 12:01am - 12:04am. I usually sleep at around that time so sometimes I look at my watch and see what time will the date change. I've encountered a date change at 12:01am and a lot of times at 12:04am. Is that normal or it should be changing at exactly 12:00am? Sorry its my first Rolex so have no idea at all.

It's normal. My SD is the only one that changes the date at exactly 12:00:00 AM sometimes.

Normal...luck of the draw (like what direction your crown points)

Mine changes about 15 seconds after midnight (SD).

Plus/minus five minutes should be OK.

My solution to the same problem was to go to bed at 11:59 (23:59). Problem gone.. Seems if you change the date manualy; moving all the hands with the stem, it changes at 12:00. When the movement changes the date on its own there is some play either way. All is fine.

I heard this was because the movement needs to build up a little power to give it the energy to click the date over - so it is a little luck of the draw as to exactly when it changes.

A little variation in exact time for date change around midnight is perfectly normal.

The date of my SD flips over typically 2-3 minutes past midnight.

As stated, it's quite normal. Imho, however, Rolex makes a "mistake" (sorry to say it!) by making sure that the date changes EXACTLY at midnight, but ONLY when you advance the hands MANUALLY via the winding crown! And since there seeems to be a DELAY of the date shift when the hands are moving the normal way (NOT manually turned forwards!), the date would change about 3 minutes past.

If Rolex adjusted the date mechanism to change at 3 minutes BEFORE midnight when you advance the hands MANUALLY, the date would shift pretty much spot on when the hands are moving the normal way. I had one of my previous Rolex watches adjusted this way (to have the date shift at 3 minutes BEFORE 12 when you advance the hands MANUALLY, and it worked great: The date shifted 10 seconds past midnight when the watch was going the normal way.

But I advice you to NOT have it fixed, since this is actually one of the more "complicated operations", and as long as the date changes within minus 1 to plus 5 minutes, there is absolutely NO reason to have it fixed. Better wait and have it corrected when the Rolex needs service altogether after about 5 years after purchase (or 5 years after its LAST service).

I bought my GMT IIc last month. It also changes about 3-4 minutes past midnight. The good news is that my crown faces exactly up when fully closed!
