Personal taste. And I love the 116500 too that I have in black since 2018. I find the white 126500 more appealing to the white 116500 and actually more comfortable but to each his own

I never said I hated the 116500 I actually have the black dial since 2018 and still love it. I posted here and on IG a few comparison pics to show the differences between the 116500 and 126500 and I personally prefer the white 126500 vs white 116500.

Congratulations! I too have the same feeling. I'm so lucky and was offered a NOS 116500LN from my ad a few weeks ago. It is a good contender for the 116500LN with the latest dated card!

To be fair though, there are also plenty on the other side of the fence who HATE the 126500, but LOVE the 116500. At the end of the day, most people who frequent watch forums are going to be absorbed by the minutiae to the point that even the tiniest of differences can make or break a design in their eyes. Most of us here are in the 0.1% of the population that cares about such minor stuff!

Personally speaking I just can't unsee the asymmetric lugs on the 116500, so for me (while I don't HATE the 116500) the changes on the 126500 make the latest version the one I want to buy, where previously I had no desire for whatsoever for the 116500. Just personal preference.

But congrats to the OP on the pickup! Excellent that you had the choice and picked up the one you liked more.

Same I owned the 116500ln white for 3 years. Appreciate it and didn’t like the new one at first. I liked the slimmer asymmetrical case the “bolder” look of the old panda. My exact words. I then was checking out the 126500 white for 2 weeks in person and after some deliberation decided to switch. We’re all used to the old steel case for decades now and accustomed to the thicker rings and bezel as I was. Seeing the new model in person it looked better to me as well. The new visually thinner bezel with ring looks more cohesive and has the classic look of the 4 digit models. The thinner subdial rings and hour markers emulate the zenith models. The 116500ln white is more bold but after seeing it next to the new one the thicker rings didn’t sing to me anymore and the solid ceramic bezel looked like an afterthought that didn’t flow with watch. I am still glad I switched out after 2 months. My mom still has here white 116500ln and fits her well. My dad has the 116500ln black. He can’t tell the difference but I want him to update to the new one. The black model is not polarizing like the white model.
The new model is still new and people aren’t used to it. I believe this thread will not age well in 1-2 years but what do I know other than my extended experience with both. Not to offend anyone but I believe the older reference will not age well while the new one has more timeless features. Your preference will vary based on your experience as well.

I am not sure what timeless features the new one posses over the old one to be honest. If it is the metal ring, I would argue that the concept of having one material bezel is just as timeless, as the old Daytonas also had bezels only made out of steel (on the 116500 it is just purely ceramic).

I would on the other hand argue, that the case of the 116500 is gonna be viewed as timeless since it was in production and popular from 1988 to 2023, spanning widely different decades.

That being said I don’t think any Daytona model will age poorly, new or old.

Great looking watch, I think you made the right choice!

There's only one first, and that's the one you picked. I like the bolder look and more compact case design.

I did the same thing, the previous version is better than the new with the ring, at least for the black dial on my opinion

I am with you 100%!
Still love my black 116500 but I absolutely love every feature of the new ref especially on the white dial!

The ring around bezel while less practical from a damage standpoint (the ceramic would never dent) just dresses up the watch like 4 digit bezels with the black inserts.
I liked the old case too. Very sleek on wrist.

Dial wise the new one grew on me substantially with its classic features.
I also have a 116519LN ghost OF so I do like the increase sparkle of the thicker hour markers in daylight.
Also that OF Daytona bezel to me sits better on the thicker case of the white gold and doesn’t overpower the thin steel case of the 116500LN white. On the black 116500 the black bezel flows nicely with the black dial.
I get it, the bezel on the 116500 white pops a lot and that’s what I loved about it. I just don’t like it’s contrast as much anymore

Your black 116500 pic looks so good. I’ll prob have my dad keep his 116500 black also. Update us if you ever decide to update.
On that color I could go either way. With white it’s an easier choice for me. 126

Nope you’re the one insisting on your « winning combo » of 116500 white and 126500 black. Be open minded man. It’s just a hobby not a big deal!

Thanks man! While I prefer the 126500 white vs 116500 white on the black dial the differences are not that visible and very happy with my 116500. Not worth upgrading for me and especially as no jubilee fits the 126500 (I am wearing my black 116500 on super jubilee)

Nice pictures and watches!

To each his own, totally respect that! When many made comparisons with the 126 to the Zenith models, I could the see the link but also understood why I didn’t like the 126 coz I don’t know how to appreciate vintage watches.

Both series has their pros and cons, but I went with what caught my eye and I’m totally enjoying my new watch! Cheers 😃

Gosh my black dial 116500 feels insulted after this post. You did go for the classic smaller case size though, great choice
