Dial vs. Metal

What is more important to you in a purchase, the dial or the metal? Let’s say a dial you like is only offered in steel but you want PM or vice versa. Which one decides it for you?

Hhhhmmmm … I’d say metal, dial I’m happy with nearly all, but the metal plays most important part to me ..

My number 1 reason for getting the TT blue Sub41 was the dial. Gold was not in the equation at first, but it grew on me. After 3 1/2 years of wearing it, I wouldn't want it any other way.

I guess I can't separate the two, they play off each other.

If I had to select a 1st criteria it would be that it has a seconds hand, a date, and DOESN'T have a regatta timer (had to sell all my yachts to fund my watches).

Neither. The whole watch has to be desirable. This is one reason I don't own a DD, they don't do a combination of metal and dial that sings to me. In the case of the DD the bracelet fit and comfort is also a potential demerit but this would only come into consideration if Rolex launch a dial/metal combination I can fall in love with.

The total watch has to speak to me. If something is off or I am settling it will come up and bother me at some point.

They have to work together. I am into fashion as well. So the dial color means something to me. I am very conservative so I normally opt for steel. Hoping to get a WG piece in the future.

Metal is first which depends on my financial situation. The dial has to match of course.

The metal I guess because stainless steel is all I can justify.

I've never considered it from that perspective. My desire was always for the watch in its entirety, rather than focusing on the dial or metal

For me case and dial (incl. dial finish, layout choice, material, hands and markers) are the important things to me. And in the case of dress watches, complication.

The material of the case and wether its on bracelet or strap isn't as important in my buying choices.

Both is important to me. I love my GMT Meteorite for both those reasons. The beautiful dial and the weight and shine of the WG.
