Id be very surprised if they produce more than 100 5131R's per year from what I hear and read about them.. I tried everything to acquire a 5131R via the normal routes having owned a few Pateks and even wrote to Mr Stern about it but no joy, but in all fairness he did write back to me personally which was nice .
In the end I had to pay around 30K USD over retail to get it as this piece means alot to me and the work I do and I wear and enjoy it.

I have since written again to Mr Stern as a follow up to my last letter advising him that I managed to acquire the 5131R but wasnt happy that I had to pay way over retail for it and felt the procedure to getting these are a little unfair as most end up in HK grey dealers looking to profit from them and prevent genuine collectors from owning them. Lets see if he replies this time??

When the 5131J was in production I knew very little about Patek and they were above my pay grade however I asked my AD if I could apply for it and unfortunately was politely denied because I was told you had to own a few Pateks to even be considered.
Never any pressure from the AD to purchase anything else from PP. Possibly a 5711A was on the cards but with a 2-3 year wait quoted I was happy to sit it out. I did order a 5575G on the day it was announced incase the 5131 never arrived - in the event I turned down my allocation on that as by then I had received my 5131R and I only wanted 1 WT (sorry KarlS). Also along the way there were many discussions with the AD which led to the surprise 4968R purchase for my wife. The AD is also a Rolex AD so there were other pieces - I like to think their trust in me has been rewarded, as always it is a 2 way street. :)

I hope your time frame is more for dramatic effect than reality. Most models end up being widely available...can you remember the 5146 for a few years??? I can assure you that whilst the 5930 is a standard production watch I cannot see any reason why it will be widely available in 1 year!!!! in fact happy to take a friendly bet and pay your TRF pledge fees for a year if you proven correct!!

Ha ha what Russell is tactfully saying is that I was behind him for the 5575 at the AD. However when he declined the AD was not allowed to allocate next in line at the AD but the allocation was forfeited and then given to whoever else they thought was more deserving. In fairness I think I only applied for the 5575 in November 2015....

Oh I don't know, I think we might both be able to agree that whether you like the 40th Nautilus or not the original Patek press images were a poor reflection of how the pieces look in the flesh.

I have started this thread simply because there was a pretty universal dislike to some aspects of the 40th Nautilus models which now that actual watches have been seen has changed considerably. Some of the biggest detractors have now placed or are considering placing orders!

Please have a look at the following pictures before placing your vote, these were all taken by a Patek client of actual production watches and no editing has taken place. It seems to be universally accepted by those who have seen the pieces that the diamond indices are actually very discreet and well thought out and that the 40th anniversary wording far from standing out as it did in the factory photographs actually blends very well into the background in most situations.

Unfortunately we won't be able to agree, doesn't look any better today to me than it did when announced (and seems like 41% agree).

Maybe it's just my poor eyesight...no actually it's not that

Just having fun Russell, you can't change my mind, but I respect anyone who likes it.

Variety of opinions is a good thing.

To be honest I was only suggesting we agree that the original press photos differ greatly from the in the flesh feedback and photos. Wouldn't dream of suggesting you had changed your mind.

Original poll with press photos was 30% either liked or were waiting to see, we are now at 60% with actual in the flesh photos so quite a come back.

The Nautilus is a much loved piece, a true classic! Making a hugely expensive sports watch in Platinum, adding diamonds and then embossing is always going to divide. As you say, variety of opinions is a good thing.

Wonder why PP don't number their LE's or do they? For the anniversary would have been nice if they did something to the movement ...guess can't please everyone although the poll has shown a warming to the piece versus the outright rejection to my own deleted poll!!!

The watch is gorgeous. I am still not in love with engraved dial, however.

I am still not sure what watch I would really want once I am in the 100K zone.
