I would definitely try something like that! I have a turkey farm not far from me for that recipe I would probably go with boneless turkey thighs. Thanks for posting!

How are your pooch's stools after eating that? Is he gassy at all? My dog loves chunks of apples, carrots, and when I'm cutting romaine lettuce for salad she loves it when I toss her some of the hearts. They are like fun little treats for her.

Our four girls rotate their food. They often eat better than me lol.

-Organic chicken, lentils, rice, and carrots: homemade by my wife.
-Freshpet dog food with organic snap peas
-Rotisserre chicken from Costco once every 2 weeks or so as a fun weekend treat
-Ribeye once every two weeks. Either leftovers from a restaurant or grilled at home.

Snacks: green beans and Good-N-Fun sticks

We’ve worked with Just Food For Dogs since their inception. They’ve come a long way and I’d definitely endorse them.

I use Nutri Source, a mid-level dry, that my breeder recommends, and I mix it with the two best wet available, alternating between Ziwi Peak, made in New Zealand, and Farmina ND, made in Italy. My wife also cooks for them, but this has been an easy and well-balanced plan that has delivered great results for us.

Yepper, I have been cooking homemade food for my Boykin Spaniel for several years now - it is a major PITA honestly, but beats cleaning up vomit. I tried every high end kibble imaginable and the homemade is the only thing that is reliable,

My recipe is:

10lbs ground chicken thighs from the local butcher
3 cans sliced carrots
3 cans peas
4 apples chopped
8 cups basmati rice
4 Tbsp lard, reserved from bacon

I have 2 of the large Instapots that I run - 1 for the rice and 1 for the chicken.
I use the large freezer safe 128oz cylinder containers and I freeze it after I cook. The recipe above fills 5 of those containers and lasts a little less than a month.

Ziwi Peak is another top choice of ours. It can be cost prohibitive though, so alternatin is almost a necessity if you have a dog over 5 pounds 😂

Excellent! Try looking into adding a couple supplements, namely Bone Meal Powder from a company called Now Foods, and a vitamin supplement called Dogzymes Ultimate. Cooking for your dogs is the best you can do for them, however, some of our human foods lack specific needs that dogs have.

Since we are on the subject, want to share this with my forum friends. This is the best single ingredient dog treat you can find, and my dogs go nuts over them. Dehydrated Sweet Potatoes.

I make my own due to some digestive system allergies to rice, eggs, fish and fish oils, whey, and a couple others.

After many procedures/tests ……………….. venison and potato food cured it all ! The only manufacturer of this is unreliable (Royal Canin), so I make my own. I buy venison from local meat processors, add potatoes, peas, and carrots………………done.

My boy is incredibly picky. We found the only hard food he will eat is Taste of the Wild, pacific stream flavor. Then we mix a Purina Beneful medleys can (you have to switch it up, otherwise he gets bored) in for every meal. He gets full moon jerky tenders and charlottes web cbd treats for snacks and occasionally a bite or two of whatever I’m eating.

We have tried everything and this is the only combination that works. He didn’t even eat more than a few bites of the fresh stuff from Publix.

I use that same recipe. My dog loves them. Make sure to refrigerate them though. They spoil really fast!

My father used to live near a condemned meat slaughterhouse.
He used to get tripe from there for next to nothing and the dog loved it. Only problem is the smell when cooking it.

Occasionally there was fillet steak, but if it passed the sniff test, guess who scoffed that.

I had a boxer with severe food allergies and we use to make her a very similar meal plan except with quinoa instead of rice. She was happy as a lark. I miss her but don’t miss those late nights scooping the food into bags and moving it to the mini freezer lol we would make about 40 meals each batch.

Heard great things about Just Food For Dogs from someone yesterday. Turns out it made a HUGE difference in life expectancy of their pooches.

Id eat that.

Anyway, we feed the dog what we eat mixed with some kibble. Never had any unnatural health issues.

Same company, same product. Chewy never updated the pic to match the new packaging.

We use a crock pot to make our dog's food. It is a mixture of chicken, rice, and veggies.

We started because our little dog was diagnosed with pancreatitis and had to have a special diet. She is an extremely picky eater and would not eat anything we could buy. Vet gave us a recipe and we have been making it every since. Dog loves it which is a big plus.

Lot's of great stuff here. We do a mix of dry and homemade and have been for years. Usually chicken or turkey. Sweet potato, carrot, peas and rice. Usually some fish oil mixed in along with some probiotic. Seems to work pretty well as we have two healthy 17 and 15 old dogs who go friggin bananas come dinner time.
