Aftermarket Bracelet.. UNSPEAKABLE ?..or Not.. A TRF Proposition..

As many have found out, a 14060M, or early GMT, etc, with the 93150 bracelet and 501 end-links leaves you holding the bag as far as SEL's, etc.. There are also many with early watches who don't feel the 1,000 dollar price tag for a replacement..and still get hollow links, is worth the money..

There are aftermarket bracelets available with SEL, but they don"t fit...without some modifications..

We're not talking counterfeit, or replica; we're talking about a quality 316L stainless steel bracelet with solid end-links and solid center links..

I have run across one:
Here it is in my shop.... this is the machine shop, and not at my watch hobby bench..

THE PROPOSITION:

If there is enough interest to see the process, I will modify an SEL to fit a non-SEL watch. I will try to use common tools that many may have such as a Dremel, etc so any DIYer can attempt it..

I'll run a series over the next few weeks detailing the steps you would take, probably in more detail than really needed, if you ever want to undertake such a project...

or I'll screw it up beyond belief..

If there's not really any interest, then, of course, I save myself some work and photo pixels...

So, ........

................. What do you think TRF.....

You really want to trust a couple-few thousand dollars to be held to your wrist with a piece of modified auction metal?

I'll admit, that I've tried a couple; only to be disappointed. Both were close calls and never again.

I voted yes because I am genuinely interested to see how it looks and hear how it feels...I also think that to "rest" a possibly tired old original bracelet, preserving it for value's sake is sensible.....of course old original bracelets can break so a very good non-original item could offer more security, hence there are a few good reasons for doing it......however, if it bears the coronet on the clasp then surely it must be seen as counterfeit or replica.....the coronet logo must have a copyright????....I am not as anal about it as many probably would be so as I said, I voted yes

Replicas or counterfeit products are usually cheaply made as the intent is to deceive.........

TRF does not condone or approve of counterfeits........ and yes, the Rolex crown is a trademark, so any watch products with it are trademark infringement products.. fakes..

Nothing wrong whatsoever with a high quality aftermarket bracelet. I think it's a good idea to explore.

I see no reason why this can't be done. Like you said - it is an aftermarket bracelet, absent of any trademark infringement logos.

Go for it Larry.

You do not need to do it for me Larry, but I'm sure it will be usefull on the longterm for all members.
I may need an new or nice used original bracelet for a 1655 by january , but I'd rather want the original thing before a modified one.

I hope you give it a try, my bracelet sure needs replacement (worn daily since 74') and the cost of a rolex one is out of sight. So sure I hope you end up with a great, affordable product. I wouldn't mind Rolex knowing there was a competitive bracelet available.

Thanks - Chuck

I'm not going to compete with anybody......... I'm much too lazy to turn this into a job or work of any sort........... I just like to tinker..........

But I will show you how to do it yourself if you want to.......
