I used to feed Redrum sugar lumps after he'd retired to Southport (Lancashire, UK) after winning the Grand National 3 times when my Grandfather used to take me to the stables when we visited. Now he was a mighty horse if ever there was one....Great big thing, he was, beautiful face, eyes pointing forward, like a missile on 4 legs...

That's him Mon,
My Grandparents were big Southport residents and when we used to go and stay with them Grandad would take my brother and I down to the stables, I actually sat on Redrum once - we'd walk with the horses and Le Mare's grooms down to the beach and watch the horses galloping the sands along the flats, including Redrum (who by then was only interested in sugar lumps) - wonderful memories Mon, wonderful... |
