Intrested to note that Honda has many cars listed

http://www.carcomplaints.com/worst_vehicles/

After our 2001 Honda Civic EX I learned never to buy anything but Toyota's...The Civic auto Trans went out at 50k
power sun roof at 60k and both left side power winows.
Struts were shot at 60k too...
the seats started to rip then also...
It had so many problems we got rid of it at 72k....
Never ever ever again would I buy a Honda
Why all the rant?
I got a check today after 5+ years from Honda for the settlement over the auto trans problem
It was about 20 percent of what the total cost was....

really?? im sorry you had problems i had a 1992 Honda Legend that (until i bought my BMW 2 months ago) was running fine except no aircon ( too much to repair) it had done 290,000KM and was still mechanicaly sound. never had huges problems with it, think i only had to do small things like fuel pump at 150K and ignition switch at 200K but it was such a nice car. i loved it and only soold it cause it was time for an upgrade.
i sold it to a mate who forgot to fill up the radiator and just about blew it up, but still running strong at 300kKM which is very good for a car i think.
Hondas are sposed to run for longer than any other Jap car so i am surprised at this. but best of luck with your toyota

I have a 2003 Honda Accord.

In 2008, the switchgear/stereo unit went out and that cost me about $900.

A few weeks ago, the catalytic converter went south (probably my fault for forgetting to have the plugs changed at 110,000 miles, the trans-axle had to be replaced, and the valves needed adjustment: total cost $1700.

I have 121,000 miles on the car.

I'd call that reliable.

Even C.R. dropped the civic off its list....Point is Honda use to build great cars till about 97-98 then the Q.C. dropped or something happened and now they just rest on reputation.
My wife's daughter bought a 09 CRV and guess what is slipping gears at 45k....the auto
transmission.
My wife told her to dump it this week-end and get a RAV4 or Sante Fe/Kia Sorento before she has to pay 4k on a transmission.
I read the Pres of Honda is firing people over it (trans problems) and to get a new Civic out this year and to fix the trans problems across the Honda line....the Van had trans problems also.
Honda had/has a huge class action lawsuit over the trans problems....I was in on it.

My first Honda (89 civic) got 200k miles. Our 2003 van has never had a problem. My 2007 Accord has been trouble-free as well. Although I did get a recall notice that something with the trans needed to be repaired.

In 2001 Honda only had a 36k warranty. Did you have an extended warranty or did Honda just give you free money?

We have had and still own Honda Civics without any problems. My son drives my wife's old 2005, I currently drive a 2005 and my wife now has a 2009 that she is using. I think they are decent cars but of course no one builds bullet proof cars anymore...I'm just saying!!!

I believe that there was a class-action lawsuit regarding the transmissions.

I had a 2000 Prelude, first tire change and brake job at 100000 miles. Miss that car, had to sell it 5 years ago, when my first son was born. My current car, BMW 5 series needs the performance tires and brakes about every 25000 miles.

do you have any proof that hondas are any better built compared to other japanese cars? afaik toyota's (until the stuck accelerator issues) have been at the top of the JD Power ratings.

having driven and/or repaired the following
honda (legend)
nissan (skyline)
toyotas (camry,mark X, alphard)
lexus (gs300,ls400,ls460).

i can say that all are nicely built cars. thats not to say they are perfect, and as with any mass produced products you will get the occasional lemon.

That's too bad. I was eying the Pilot for my next car in a few years. Have never owned a Toyota... may have to take a serious look at one. Hubby has the FJ and loves it. Then again, Toyota had those problems with sticking accelerator pedals...

Does ANYONE makes cars like they used to? Rock-solid reliability? (Subaru, anyone?)

Anedcotal - my 2007 Nissan Pathfinder has electrical gremlins. Windows roll themselves down at random when the car is parked, mirrors adjust when the car is sitting overnight... mystifies the technicians. I haven't checkecd the Nissan tech sites recently to see if finally a service bulletin has been issued - might just be my car.

Remember, that it was determined that there was no issue with the accelerator pedals...the original complaint was determined to be the fault of the driver. i have had several toyotas (and Lexus'), very reliable and inexpensive to repair. i had a camry that i bought new that had over 325,000 miles when i traded it in!

subaru are nice cars to drive, abit more thirsty on the fuel, and also service bills is slightly more expensive than competing makes.

if you are mechanically minded i still believe a toyota is what you should be after. parts are easy to find, relatively cheap, and plenty of aftermarket options should you want to go down that route.

I drive a 2010 Chevy Impala. Ive got 75k on her and the only thing that was an issue was the check valve for the air injector at 71k fixed under warranty. I also replaced the original tires at 67k, and still on original brakes and struts.

Honda is not what they used to be. I think Hyundai is a better choice, and definitely Toyota and Subaru.
