Problem with Antiquorum?

I have a friend who consigned two Rolex watches to Antiquorum for the 7 December 2010 auction in NYC. Both watches were sold to a buyer who was present at the auction (who also happens to be a friend), he paid immediately, but the seller has not been paid despite repeated inquiries. He keeps getting shuffled from person to person, and the latest excuse was that the funds were in Switzerland or China.

Is this typical behavior for Antiquorum? Is Antiquorum on the verge of bankruptcy or in some other financial trouble? Has anybody here had a similar experience? Is lack of payment 75 days after the auction considered acceptable in the auction world?

I would appreciate any input the experienced members on this forum could provide. Thank you.

I believe that is a reoccurring problem with auction houses .

How long has AQ been stiffing customers? You would think this would be bad for business.

X2!! It is not an issue with Christies or Sothebys and is limited to Antiquorom!
I have not heard of any issue with any other auction house.

Not what my uncle Hans would say after dealing with Christies in Geneva some years ago . My earlier remark was relating to that event only .

Ironically, I posted this question on another forum. It received one reply within five minutes and it was totally removed from the forum by the mods within 30 minutes. That particular forum has dozens of announcements on its homepage lauding AQ. I wonder how that would show up on a Google search?

Fortunately, there are still forums like this one where people can post questions, share their experiences and get honest comments. I hope this thread shows up in a Google search when somebody is doing their due diligence and trying to make an informed decision.

I know exactly what forum you're talking about and here's my reaction to it..

They are in cahoot with AQ so of course they delete any negative discussions about them.

Again...

TimeZone is owned by Antiquorum. Of course any critical post will be deleted immediately.

I consigned a painting with Christie's last year. The painting sold within their estimated range & payment was sent to me on the exact day it was promised.

I guess the reactions of the various forums to a thread like this shows us which forums are truly interested in honestly educating their members and those that only care about marketing. If Customer Service at Antiquorum acted as quickly as the moderators at the forum it owns, there would not be threads like this one. I would love to see the company respond rather than have the thread deleted. Let the buyers, sellers and posters beware.

Thank you to all who have provided feedback to my questions. I will keep you informed.

Is it accurate to say that TZ is owned by Antiquorum? Also, is their chief moderator an emplyee of the auction house?

Perhaps Antiquorum reads the forums?

My friend received a response from Antiquorum today -- first from the PR & Marketing Department and then from Finance. Still no payment from the Finance Department.
