Got mine when I was 34 as a wedding gift from my Mom in law.
Also looks like it was the same time I found this forum and joined. Guess I been doing more reading than posting with the low post count. |

When i was 20, my dad bought himself a new president, and told me he had traded in his old rolex. I was devastated, i loved the watch he traded in, and thought he would sell it me cheap. He said something about earning a rolex you don't just get given them.So you can imagine my surprise on my 21st birthday, when he gave me the watch. He hadn't traded it he had sent it for a service. It was and always will be the best birthday present i ever had.

My dad bought a SS black subdial/bezel silver faced Daytona in the late 70's (his early 30's, and his first Rolex). It honestly was NOT a good watch, I remember the push-buttons coming lose at least twice, and crystal scratched easily.
In the late 80's, on my 22nd b-day, he gave it to me. He had just spent about $500 getting it running, again, at the time. About a year or so later, the market went nuts for these. I started getting accosted WAY too often, with random people coming up and offering ever increasing amounts of money to me, for the watch. My dad freaked out, after this happening a few times with him present! We talked about it, I needed money at the time, and ended up trading it for a nearly-new SS Submariner AND $2700 cash. Still have the Sub, and it has proven to be a MUCH better watch than the Daytona ever was. Lee |
