In the US I have absolutely no problem shipping fedex 2nd day we ship 100's of packages a year and never once a problem but yes there is no declared value coverage and were I to ship something international then I would have to go USPS.

Its the only way to ship if you want your package to be totally insured and secure. Fedex doesn't insure watches at all. Fedex is great until your package with your $10,000 watch is lost or stolen........same would be true for other carriers. USPS insures up to $5,000. I'd rather it take a bit longer than lose sleep.

Fedex are assholes and that post about their declared value not being insurance is correct. Fedex left a huge package out in the rain at an apartment building in NewYork city I failed a claim and was denied.. lol
USPS is the best and cheap for small things. Pro tip put the watch in a box then put it in a Flat rate bubble mailer and insure it. Anywhere in the US in 2-4 days. |

I've had two different overhauls from RSC NYC ship from Rolex back to me USPS registered which just shows they believe in it.

I USED TO BE A POSTAL CLERK (sorry) when I started working. Registered, insured, return receipt requested is the most secured way to ship. Signed for every step and placed in secure locations.
I have had some postal clerks try to talk me into certified or just insured, but I insisted, as you should, that it be sent registered, insured, and return receipt requested (so the receiver must sign a form that is mailed back to you - this is considered proof of receipt). |

Unless I am shipping it to Rolex for service (they require registered mail only) I always use FedEx with no insurance from them. My insurance policy (Personal property floater) allows for shipping by any method as long as there is a tracking number. Therefore I do not pay twice for insurance. In addition it is far easier to deal with an insurance company then the post office for a lost or damaged item.

It should be pointed out here as it has in previous threads that RSC only accepts packages sent via USPS Registered Mail. They also only ship by that method.

The slimy thing about Fedex and UPS is that if you have an account and list the item and declare the value they are certainly willing to add a huge premium on the shipping. In other words they collect the money for insurance. I wonder if that is legal?

I prefer not to insure watches with the carrier.
I prefer to have it shipped as a timing instrument or similar description with no significant value indicated on the paperwork. My insurance company will insure it with its s/n stated to an agreed value and they also have my watches listed for insurance purposes. This usually costs me between $90 - $120. Has always worked for me.
