Patek Philippe introduces the 2024 Only Watch 6301A

Cue the Patek haters ~

https://watchesbysjx.com/2024/04/pat...nly-watch.html

Patek Philippe’s original creation for the what was originally Only Watch 2023 was a unique version of the Minute Repeater Alarm ref. 1938P. After that got postponed to May this year, Patek Philippe replaced its original contribution with the ref. 6301A. Though only the dial differs from the standard version in terms of visuals, the ref. 6301A is strikingly different.

The official model name of the ref. 6301A describes it comprehensively: “Grande and Petite Sonnerie, Minute Repeater. Rare Handcrafts”. The watch has the same GS 36-750 PS IRM movement as found in the regular production model. This hand-wind calibre incorporates a grande and petite sonnerie function that strikes the time as it passes in full or quarter strike mode (a silent mode is also available). In addition, it has a minute repeater that chimes the time on demand, which is activated via the pusher in the crown.

The Rare Handcrafts aspect of the watch is the dial, which is finished with blue-green flinqué enamel. The dial starts as a blank of 18k gold that is then engine turned by hand on a manually-operated rose engine to create the swirling-spiral pattern. The guilloche surface is then covered with enamel paint and fired in an oven, creating a glossy, translucent surface that reveals the pattern below.

The dial is further dressed up with 12 indices for the hours, along with the subtle “Only One” label incorporated into the twin power reserve indicators. Interestingly, the dial does away with the leaf-shaped hands found on the standard model, and replaces them with dauphine hand for a more modern look.

Diameter: 44.8 mm
Height: 12.3 mm
Material: Stainless steel
Crystal: Sapphire
Water resistance: None, but humidity and dust resistant

I think this is amazing- SS with super sonnerie and MR plus diamond hour markers!!! Yes please. Absolute stunner imo - what’s there to criticize

The usual hater "group's" favourite topics are lack of innovation, lack of water resistance, lack of finishing, too expensive (at same price you can get many G-Shocks), older Pateks are better, lack of 10-year warranty and not safe to wear on the streets.

lol that’s nuts - the whole water resistance thing is ridiculous anyway - who the hell cares. Why worry about it. I’m a Patek fan boy so I guess I don’t count ;)

The design is nice, nice colour combination. But I would wait for any videos from watch sites regarding its acoustic performance as a Minute Repeater. Don’t think SS is the right metal for a MR…. But glad to be prove wrong.

An extraordinary achievement at the intersection of art, engineering, sound and design. In sum, cool AF.

I always thought steel and titanium were actually better for MR but at this price point people want gold or platinum

Beautiful. Apparently, steel and titanium are better than gold and platinum—but red gold is preferred by Thierry Stern.

Not that it matters, I would have personally preferred Ti over steel.

Where is enjoythemusic when we need him? Patek needs some bashing from him as usual.

Jokes aside, amazing watch!

I don't understand the use of this word at the bottom of the dial (underneath the small seconds register).

émail is french for enamel. That dial has an enamel finish.

There are 3 languages. Patek is Polish, Only One is English while the rest are French.

Wow, that is the most incredible piece. Too bad it’s 44mm, otherwise I’d definitely buy it at the auction….. I’m sure my credit is good enough.

Superb watch. Prob cost more than the GDP of half countries in the world, and still be worth it.

I don’t admire these watches because they are created for robber barons and despots. This is one of the embarrassing aspects of PP.

Maybe enjoythemusic is laying off because it’s a minute repeater and sounds soooooo good?

Let me tell you how this model was created.

The 6301P was picked at random as a basemodel. In 5 minutes , the following was decided:

1) We can’t keep platinum, that’s the same as the regular production model! Oh, we don’t have any steel minute repeaters in the catalogue ? Let’s go with that.
2) We can’t keep the same beautiful enamel dial, that’s the same as the regular production model! what’s something better than that ? Oh wait we just came out with our best enamel dial yet in the 5168g? Let’s stick that in there
3) Wait , the dial is the exact same as the 5168g, what’s special about that? Both models have breguet numerals. Oh yeah let’s stick some baguette diamonds on, write ‘only one’ like we did in 2019 and now it’s different!
4) Oh, you think we should hand finish the movement and have some anglage to make it more special for the owner ? No, that’s too much work . Let’s just write only watch on the back and call it a day.

Voilá .

Does anyone want to place( over under bets on the final auction price?
I’m guessing $15million but it may go for more.

Going by Patek charity watch entries perhaps they should run as a charity full time lol
Really nice piece just frustrating when you see what they are capable of then you get a few years of production pieces mainly dull as dishwater. (Enjoy music mode on)

That's not true.
There are multiple hand-finished sharp interior angles on the 6301 movement that machine cannot do.

It's 5178G, not 5168G. The small difference of 10 made a world of difference.
