Christies
I found some interesting results from the Christies online auction that ended yesterday. Some of the vintage, lesser known references did quite well. An Ellipse 3666 from the '70s that was estimated at $3000-$5000 sold for $13,750! Also, the hot watches stay hot. The one Aquanaut, a 5065, brought over $43,000!

I wonder how the popularity for an older style aquanaut 5065 compares to the more recent 5165 and 5167. That’s a pretty crazy amount for a 5065.

That's a lot for a 5065 imho, then again remember getting my muse a 5066a ($10k, to match my 5067). Hard to move a 5066a at that time too. Now they're $20k to $24k!?!?
(Shaking head in amazement / disbelief)

Albert @ European is a great guy, runs a smooth operation. Have his hard cover watch book here, epic pics!

The 5065 aquanaut price is inclusive of a 25% buyer premium. Still a wild price for one without a box and original papers!

Yes. All prices include the 25% buyer's premium. It looks like the high bid was $35,000 (some asking prices on Chrono 24 are in that range), but add 25% and you get to $43,750! That's what it cost to walk out with the watch.

Someone say 5065?
I think that price was a little silly, but nevertheless it’s one of the coolest watches I own. Very cool on bracelet, tritium dial, and super versatile/comfortable. |
