Real or Fake? Vintage Rolex Oyster Datejust
Friends,
I like vintage watches but have purchased from reputable sellers in the past. I have a chance to buy this watch directly from a seller, so I thought I'd check with some more knowledgeable folks. Can you please tell me if anything screams 'fake' about this vintage Rolex Oyster Datejust? It has a 264xxx serial number, which I believe places it at around 1943 or 1955 (more likely), unless the owner is missing a digit and it would be 1968. I have no expertise with Rolex so my instinct is that there's something off about this watch, particularly the spacing between "Oyster Perpetual," it looks like one word on the watch. But I admit that's just instinct and I don't know. Any insights based on these pics? I would be grateful for an informed opinion. Thanks, Vinnie Vegas |

Agree, just look at the printing and the "SWISS" at the bottom is awful.
Edited to add: look at the crown on the dial.

Thanks for all the insights, folks. I really appreciate it. This looked "off" to me, in my largely uninformed view. I agree and think the dial has been redone. I was very tempted, but I will pass on this one.
Thanks again! |
