Experiment with an IWC or stick to Rolex?
Hey guys,
Current collection is this ImageUploadedByTapatalk1422733059.391042.jpg I'm considering adding an IWC Portuguese chronograph. I've always liked the look of that IWC.I kept away because of some of IWCs marketing mistakes and the ETA based movement, but knew that I'd have to own one some day coz I love the clean lines and classic design. The impending price hike makes me want to pull the trigger sooner than later.the other option is to put the money towards that Patek 5167/5711 that I've been waiting for or a Rolex Daytona or what ever new model I fancy. Got for the IWC- Good idea or not?any advice would be great!

I think an IWC would be a good choice, I have a pilot chrono and absolutely adore it. It is more subtle than most watches and won't attract attention. IWC as a company attracts mixed reviews but ultimately their watches are beautiful.

I think you have a perfect collection and don't need the IWC.

I have both the Daytona and the IWC Portuguese 3714. IWC Portuguese is a great watch and looks amazing on my wrist I'm sure you will be happy with your purchase if you happen to buy one However, I recommend you make the final decision after actually trying it on yourself

No. Save the $ for a Rolex or PP.
IWC is an overrated brand IMO. |

Always fun to experiment, if you can afford the 2-3k loss in case you decide to flip then by all means go for it. Buy right of course.

I liked the look of the 3714 and tried it on but it didn't do much for me. I've had a few brands but not an IWC.

I'm all for branching out to different brands, but I wouldn't go for the IWC. I think you have a very nice and well balanced collection.
While the Daytona is my favorite Rolex, at this point in your collection I would save for the PP. |

I have an IWC 3756 and love it. It's my second favorite watch after my all black Y series GMT-II. If you don't care about possible depreciation, go for the IWC.

I have both the SS Daytona and the IWC Portuguese auto chrono 3714 with the gold hands.
I can honestly say I prefer the IWC to the SS Daytona any day, the Daytona though cost £2k more.

Stick to Rolex. The only IWC I would ever consider would be an in house movement model.

I just sold my 3714. Wasn't getting any wrist time and although it's a classic design, just doesn't compare to the right Daytona and it's not in the same league as a 5711.
I say go for the 5711 all the way. |

I had a Pilot Chrono that I really liked - very accurate watch. But, was disappointed with the reliability after something broke and would not self-wind any longer. I never had that issue with any of my Rolexes. Sold the watch and "returnedtorolex"

In my experience, you have to see a Portuguese on the wrist Photos don't do it justice, but once I tried it on, I loved it - the weight, the feel... Go for it! Unless you have small wrists, it wears better than a Daytona

I purchased the exact 371417 for my husband for his birthday a few years back. It looks so good on him and he loves it so much that for got him another IWC the following year. Go for it, it would be a great addition to your collection.

I've owned both the Daytona 116520 and Portuguese 3714. The IWC is elegant, classic, extremely legible but has the modified ETA and minimal water resistance. It is also limited to straps (which look great). The Daytona by comparison is a sporty, rugged watch with good water resistance and the ability to use the excellent bracelet as well as 20mm straps. Legibility can be an issue.
That being said, with three Rolexes and a Speedmaster in your collection, I'd lean towards the IWC. I think it would give you a different look than you already have. |

I added a IWC Ratrappante to rotate with my other watches as well as an Aquanaut. Bought a Zenith for semi formal wear.
Yes, it is a great idea to add the Portuguese 3714 to your collection. Go for it! |
