Also, lunar oyster has this lovely, lovely 1680 from 78. The only thing not original is the pearl. Otherwise it's seems perfect. Price is incredible...almost too good to be true! I'm half convinced I should drop everything for now and pick this up. It's a beauty!

They do go for around 6k. My pearl fell out two years ago and was replaced luminova. Not perfect but it's a small price to pay. Not a big deal for me. It's a pearl.

I know I digress but I think someone will pick up that 1680 pretty quickly now.
Btw..and just for fun. Showed my wife pics of the 1680 and a 5513 from the same site to get her opinion. She preferred the 1680 and was baffled why I would pay so much for a watch without date! :) |

Didn't mean to suggest your statement was an issue, just wondering who was so certain! Sorry, if you read that as an accusation, mate. I think, at the end of the day, the old adage "Buy the seller" is the soundest advice. With someone like Jacek, at HQ Milton, you don't have to worry about "is this, or isn't this original?" It will state everything you need to know in its description, and you will have the luxury of not stressing or second guessing! And that 1680 at LunarOyester looks fantastic |

That's pretty funny, I emailed lunaroyster last night about trading my LV for that 1680. I have another thread in this section about potentially trading. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That is a beautiful 1680 if I didn't just buy one I would be all over that one. I am sure it won't last long. Happy hunting.

Anyway...back to the Mark 3 dial. If there are other opinions please let them be known. I can't seem to upload the full resolution image but if someone wants me to mail it to them to take a closer look, please PM me.

Someone pointed me to this very resourceful site (I've been there before) where they talk about the Maxi dial variants. Puffing, especially on Mark 3 dials, is quite evident.

Hey Guys,
this guy is selling this rolex, he is local. Just want to have it checked out by the forum before I make an offer. Can anyone tell me exactly what looks to be wrong with this or if anything, I know in the offer he stated stuff has been replace, but any other issues spotted would be great to know from you guys! http://www.ebay.com/itm/252201581601 |

A quick update for all those who had pitched in...I pulled the trigger and bought the watch in the original post late last week. Since it was Christmas break (bad time to send funds half way around the world) they only reached the sellers account today but by then he had left for his NY break and will only be back mid of next week, when it will be shipped to me.
Can't wait. More updates, pictures and thoughts when I get it over the next week or two. Happy New Year to all you fine folks. |

Secondly, please go through this entire post, Jacek does not have a 79 5513 except one which has some very unpleasant bubbling on the dial, offered for a whopping 8600 USD after I negotiated with him (and which has unsurprisingly remained unsold for over 3 months). He had another great condition 79 maxi which was listed in April (and was sold before I started my search) that was priced north of 9k. He had another 79 Maxi lollipop that sold for 10k much earlier in 2015. Andrew Shear offered me a similar maxi (but not 79) for about 10k USD. He said a good condition 79 would be north of this, probably around 12k since those have the more desirable lollipop Maxi 3 (similar to the one I've bought). I could go on and on citing correspondences with the who's who of noted sellers for vintage Rolex. The reality is this (despite what everyone *still* mistakenly seems to think) - A maxi dial in good condition does not retail for less than 9k. This is a fact, not speculation. I found one for about 7k a month ago. The list of issues with it were endless - wrong insert, pitting, overpolished lugs, thin crown guards, service plexi, novice seller. Of course it got sold in a few days and was exactly the kind of specimen I wanted to avoid (and did). If someone disputes this, I can PM them my excel sheet of the research I've done, the approximate price to expect (at present), including which maxi (1,2 or 3) was more commonly found in a 79 dial. I've done my homework and I can back it up. The good old days of a Maxi under 9k are well and truly gone. Search and you will find posts (here and on other interweb fora) about people complaining about maxi dials that were offered for 7k being "over-priced" a few years ago... |
