Thoughts on this 5513

Okay, I have the opportunity to purchase what looks to be a very nice 5513. I did not get a look at the Serial Number but the owner indicates that it is from 1981-82. The bezel has faded nicely, almost to a blue hue, and the dial looks nice as well...but before I pull the trigger, I would like to get some feedback from the experts on TRF. They are asking about $6K. There is no box or papers and the service history is unknown.

Thanks in advance for any comments/criticisms. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and I've always found that it's much better to have multiple sets of eyes!

Now for the pictures....

Looks amazing to me. I would buy it but then I am no expert when it comes to vintage!

Dan.....

I agree, I'm no vintage expert but I thought it looked pretty good and thought it best to put it on hold and throw it out on TRF for feedback.

That is a nice looking watch. Appears to be a Maxi MKIV dial to me. Hands and insert look great. Plexi appears to be a flatter profile service replacement. Priced very good IMHO. Most Maxi's in decent shape that I have seen of late are 7.5-10K. Unless I am missing something, this is a great deal.

Looks great. Check serial as to see year. It looks unused or very well cared. Strange for a watch with no papers or history. Check also date of bracelet. This is important for this condition. If it is original, then you may have a bargain. I would also check the movement.

I have the same, in better condition, with full pack of papers+box+history. The point is that it rests in a safe. Is this the case for this one ?

I agree! 6K for this piece is pretty attractive. Prices have escalated a lot lately.

Well, I went back to the dealer and inspected it a little further. Overall, the watch looks like it was a safe queen. The Serial # 7.36M dates it to 81-82. The date reference on the clasp is "H" which, in my research dates the clasp to 1983. The bracelet itself has very little stretch. Both the reference number and serial number are clearly visible with absolutely no rub marks. They opened the caseback for me and everything looked in order.

After a little negotiating they agreed to reduce the price by $500....So, that watch left with me and I couldn't be happier.

I actually had stop in the store to look at a 1675 (2.3M Serial) on a leather strap that looked to be in great shape, they were asking $4900 for it. Unfortunately, it had just sold, but they had just put this 5513 into the display case yesterday morning.

Good ! Watch and bracelet at correct period, with watch good inside, as said, with no signs of use, it was a "bargain". Gongrats

Enjoy it and do a lube service soon, if it was in a safe, as to avoid wear due to dried oils. Do not get it wet until a pressure test is execcuted.
