Expert opinion vintage 6694

Dear friends,

Hope to get your expert opinion on this vintage 6694 circa 1985. Recently I am falling in love with smaller watch especially the vintage Rolex, I come across this 6694 and consider to pull the trigger soon. It looks fine to me. The photos are not very clear. However please do not hesitate to share your views about this watch.

My primary concern is that if the dial, date wheel, hands are all period correct to the watch?

Many thanks in advance.

Mike.

Looks ok to me. Needs a new crystal with that chip at 5 o'clock. The 6694 is a nice daily wearer. I actually wear a 1977 just about every day. One of my favorite watches.

Glad that you enjoy your daily beater 6694 . Post the pictures of your 6694 if you have.

The seller just updated me that the tritium hour and minute hands (the watch is T dial circa 1985) still glow in the dark. Is it possible ? My understanding is that the 1980 tritium hand won't glow in dark anymore. I recalled my 1982 vintage 16800 Matt dial does not glow at all.

Dial looks original to me, my expertise is questionable but I have seen more than a few examples. Unable to comment on hands, haven't seen enough variants (mine has dauphine) and the date-wheel could be a very, very decent re-paint but I'd vote for likely original.

Would love to hear the other member opinions regarding the glowing tritium hand on this vintage.

6694 is a great watch, wore one two years straight 1999-2000. That's it in the center, lol the state of the collection in 2003. I never liked the arrow hands and had Date hands put on it. The only thing left of this pic is the 1675. :)

The date wheel with open 6 and 9 is correct from 1985 period

Just concern that the glowing tritium hand. Any idea if the 1985 period 6684 has flat square hand (like most of the date just model) or sharp hand? The 6694 I am considering has the sharp hand.

Otherwise I think this is good example.

Even if you have to replace the hands it isnt a big deal on a 6694. Its an entry level watch and a lot of them have been "restored" to begin with. The biggest thing this watch has going for it is the original warranty paperwork.
Here is a 1985 that Dickson was selling that you can use for comparison.

Respectfully and mildly, I would contend that "entry level" is a little strong: the manual-wind Rolex don't get enough respect. I love the 6424 for it's slim profile, and the 6694 for its balance and comfort. Also, you can get a Mickey Moose dial for the 6694, which isn't as easy for the GMT....

Love the thin profile and lightness of the vintage. I have birthday year 1500 and is one of my favorite in collection.
