Incoming: Grand Seiko
I received my first Grand Seiko today. Model SBGJ001, Hi-Beat 36000 GMT with silver dial.
In my current collection I have a SubC LV, 16710 GMT II, Milgauss Z Blue, Seiko SKX007, and Seiko SRPA21 (PADI turtle). I wanted to add something versatile and low key. I kicked around a few ideas: Rolex 116000, 116234 with silver stick dial, maybe a vintage datejust with acrylic and sword hands, pre-owned Speedmaster (still might happen), Nomos Orion 38... but then I came upon Grand Seiko. I was immediately drawn to the dial and hands. Simple, classsic, symmetrical, but with great lines and a clear design language. I knew I had to try them on. I was able to make it to the Seiko boutique and I was very impressed with the build quality in person. I was a bit torn between models, but ultimately I was drawn to the high beat models and I preferred the dial and added complication of the GMT. I made a call to Govberg, and the rest is history! I'm very happy to be the proud owner of this gem! Thanks TRF for the feedback and inspiration along the way! |

Enjoy your new, and first GS – it’s highly unlikely to be the only one you end up buying!

Congratulations! I love seeing people join the GS family, they're such great pieces and kind of underdogs in the high-end watch world where people only want to buy Rolex, AP, PP, et al.
I was torn between that exact model and the Snowflake, and in the end went with the Snowflake. I still may pick up the high-beat GMT some day. |

This is a great looking watch. There's noting like the purity of the GS design. I love the GMT complication and am considering a Spring Drive GMT as companion of my quartz GS, Rolex DJ and Tudor BBB. Enjoy!
