1969 Tudor Day + Date 7017/0 Questions

Hi Guys,

I very recently purchased a Tudor Jumbo Day + Date. With the help of Dan P and Gladiator authenticating and determining fair value, I was comfortable in moving forward with the purchase. Thanks guys! It's such a cool little watch, I just love the top hat acrylic and the day + date has always been a watch I've wanted. Like many, the precious metal Rolex offerings aren't in reach. What a great alternative the Tudor is.

I have it in hand now and have been able to take some more pictures and some close ups (as good as my phone will let me that is).

The model is 7017/0 and the serial # is 683XXX which puts the manufacture date around 1969.

Just looking for some honest feedback and a couple answers.

1. All components look to be original to the watch. Dial, hands, day & date wheel, crown and case back. Do you agree all is original?

2. There are some small scratches at 7 o'clock, I assume a sloppy servicing at some point in time. Kinda expected on a watch from 1969. Adds some character.

3. It looks like it has definitely been polished but the lugs appear to be decently thick. Do you agree?

4. It did not come with an original bracelet. It came with an authentic Tudor Jubilee but not original to this model. I'm not too concerned. I'm wearing on a nato right now and really like the look. I may decide to try and source an original bracelet at some point down the road.

5. The one thing I am not used to is when I shake the watch, it makes a loud humming noise. I assume it's from the rotor. I can actually feel the watch moving in my hand from the momentum of the rotor. Is this normal?

6. Is this waterproof at all or just resistant? Does it have a depth rating?

I will be doing some tests on accuracy and power reserve over the next little while. It was recently serviced by an independent so hopefully everything is good.

Thanks guys!

That's a very sharp watch! I love the look. I have worn these on NATO-style straps many times, very comfortable. Congratulations!

Sorry but points 1 to 4 cannot reply because the pics are very pixelated when I magnify them.
For point 5, you feel the rotor when is fully winded? If I'm not wrong is an ETA 2834 basis and this issue could happen when the main spring in without tension.
Point 6. Till you take the watch for servicing just think is vintage and better not to wear the watch near the water. You can take it for water pressure test if you cannot wait till next service. IMO.
BTW...is a very nice piece!! Is in my wish list! Enjoy it.

Sounds like it needs a service. It's an Oyster case, so should be waterproof after that, too.

Think it has a Schild 1875 movement. The sound could be a worn rotor bearing. Nice looking 7017!

My 7020!

i also have recently picked up a tudor 7020, nearly the same age.

i can confirm the rotor noise and was actually curious about its water resistance as well, it is rated to 100m but i am curious if the original crystal (in perfect condition) would have any issues simply from age that are not visible to the eye for instance where it seals with the case?

i just received it back from a full service and am looking for the spring bars to mount a strap on it at the moment:)

Hey Gus, so you have the same rotor noise? I asked because it was just serviced by an Independant up here in Canada, pressure tested etc and all were reported as good. I have a long warranty through the Independant so if the noise is an issue, I can get it back there. So fair it's keeping good time.

So is the consensus the watch is rated to 100m and as long as the seals are good and pressure tested it should be good for water use?

Thx

Nice pair! I've also got a 16570 but black face. Looks like our tastes are similar.

Bit of Rolexian lore, the 38mil slab sided Date Day is reputed to have the exact same case as the Rolex 1019 Milgauss

I imagine (if a nice example could be found) a jubilee bracelet would complement it nicely.

Looks great Dan.

Mine also came with A Tudor Jubilee. I have it sized so my wife can rock this when she wants. I'll wear it on NATO for now.

These are really great watches. This one often beats my others for wrist time.

I have one but in 36mm size. Would love to add the 38mm jumbo if I could find one in good condition.

I'm probably mistaken but I thought the movement number was 1895 (AS or A. Schild)? It's been a problem for me because I can't find hands long enough for my 38mm:easy enough to find vintage hands for the AS 1895, but not for the Jumbo case.
