Rare Vintage Tudor or Popular Vintage Rolex?
Hello bros
Would you take a Tudor Monte Carlo 7149 rather than Rolex 1680 Red assuming both are nice set and prices are close?! Thanks for thoughts!!! Cheers S |

I would take the red sub, personally. It all depends on your preference. Some people like the hot older sister, but others are drawn to the sassy and cute younger sister. Which is the better date to the prom? Only you can decide.

That's a tough question. The 7149 is more rare and a better value IMO. The sub is classic. I'd buy the 7149 if it's in great condition and save for a white 1680 to hold me over for the red. Maybe you'll even come to love the white 1680 and save some cash. At the end of the day they are two very different watches do what makes you happy.

I still look at Tudor as the poor mans Rolex. While I like them as a much cheaper alternative to a Rolex I would always go with a Rolex.

Not sure why, finding a Tudor 7149/59/69 in good conditions are always more difficult than finding a Rolex Red Sub...small collectors market? Or in fact people just keep them not selling them?...On the other side of the coin, spending same amount of money for a Tudor (though it is rarer) rather than a Rolex looks sort of odd...Its a tough call...

Is it a blue 7149? I'd go Tudor if it was the blue -- then I'd go Rolex if it's the black 7149.

Not big on Subs! Heresy here for sure, but that means the MC. It's on my want list and no Sub in sight.

Monte Carlo. I love the red, but the Monte is unique.

People get hung up on the name instead of buying what they like. I can get preferring the Rolex but saying a Tudor is a poor man's anything is laughable. Imo

A Rolex by any other name is...a Tudor! But for the movement they are interesting in their own right.
However, it would be the Sub for me...

I think the blue Monte Carlo is cool but would definitely take a red Submariner first.

The problem here at TRF is many just can't embrace any watch no matter how good if it doesn't sat Rolex on the dial. Don't think you can be a true WIS if you are locked into one brand.

True, thanks, one concern holding me up is that the Tudor Monte is now commanding a value as of a Red sub, at least money wise...If the Tudor Monte is half money of Rolex like their modern equivalent, I guess I will take it....Anyway, for vintage, think it is solely because of rarity..., however, rarity does play a great part when we wear vintage...tough choice!!??

Monte Carlo but only it it's the blue one.
If it's between the Red and the Gray...I guess it depends on how you feel on the day you decide the bite the bullet. Hell try to go for a Tudor Mil-Sub instead if you can find one:) Tudor is definitely not for the poor man. The only reason I got my Blue Tudor Submariner 79090 is because Rolex does not make a blue stainless steel submariner. I had a convo with the manager of my local Rolex AD...he said he would buy a blue SS rolex sub in a heart beat if it came out. Carlo |

Very true and I agree, but to be fair to our brethren, this IS a forum called The Rolex Forums! I have a sneaking suspicion that members here are a little biased towards one particular brand of watch. I forget which one, though.

Monte Carlo because of the rarity... if you consider selling the watch later: my guess is the Red will be sold faster... that's it which speaks for the Red...
had a red Sud and sold it for a double red SD :) I must know.. :)))
