How does a 15 years old Rolex stands today....??

Hello, i´m about to get my first Rolex. It will be –for sure- a Sub 5513 or a 14060 (non M), i could get a recent one for about the same price but I much prefer the 5513 plexi or the tritium dial on the 14060 than the actual 14060M. The question is simple, will a 12 to 20 or even more years old Rolex last and stand ok for daily wear? My intention is to use it without being afraid of damage it since Rolex service can always repair it fast and efficiently but i´m a little bit concerned since I´m used to new or almost new watches that I eventually flip quite soon. I´ve also considered wait until the new Submariner is released with the updated bracelet, ceramic bezel… but, apart from the higher price i´m not really sure I will like it in the flesh… So, should I be worried?? should i wait for the new model?? should i get a recent 14060M and forget plexi or tritium dials??

Here is my 12 year old SD....Runs like a charm, just had it serviced. IMO the older Subs have more character and for that I bought used. I also like the fact that I picked this one up for less than $4k. BTW, where in Spain are you?

The 5512/3 or the 14060 will be fine for daily wear without any problem whatsoever. I regularly wear a Rolex Unicorn from 1922 and expect that old timer will be still ticking when my own ticker stops.

A DateJust from 1968 is my daily wear.

No trouble out of it. Runs like a champ.

Go for it.

Here is a photo of my first Rolex (which I still have) a 14060 purchased in Feb 1994 (will be 16 years old in a few months).

It has been babied and I still wear it 10-12 times a year -

Mike,

(sorry for the minor hijack)

Can you give the specs on this gorgeous watch again??? Series, etc. etc.

I think I am going to put this on the wish list...along with a 1680 Red or White. However, finding a good / original Red seems to be a more laborious / risky proposition.

FWIW my mom's daily wear is a 1943 Lady DJ. Absolutely no problems. She is pretty fastidious about the 5 year servicing, which I would credit for its excellent condition.

If you want a plastic Sub, you need to go back to the 5513....and 20 years.. But it will hold up just fine in daily wear..

Don't know why you want to differentiate between the 14060 and the 14060M.. The watches cannot be told apart visually except for the trit dial (which probably won't glow any more). Any 14060 that has had a dial replacement though, will have the Luminova dial...

Any of the three will be a fine choice and look the same from an arms length away..

I got a new one 20 years ago. I have used it daily and it is still good as new. It is great to have a new one, but they age well.

Plus the 14060M the M is for modified movement from the Cal 3000 to Cal 3130 which is basically a 3135 without the date wheel. All of Rolex movements now except the chronos are just clones of the 3135 with or without added complications.

I know you're particular about box and papers. You'll go nuts finding vintage pieces that still have them.

The DJ was not introduced until 1945

My Submariner 1680 is 36 years old. It is a good example of an older watch. It was serviced and has no issues. The Tritium dial and hands still glow at night. I do not baby the watch and I’m sure the previous owner did not as well. This is by far my most comfortable Rolex as it is extremely light compared to a modern sub. I wear it weeks on end with out an issue. I would recommend a modern bracelet vs. a folded bracelet as it is easier to get parts and service.

My everyday watch is a 50's tt tog. My last one was a 1973 tt GMT, that one of my sons now uses as his everyday watch. 15-20 years is nothing on a Rolex.
