Does a Rolex help in court?
I had to appear in court today (non criminal case - I was a witness) and I wore a custom tailored Brooks Brothers suit ($1200), tailored Brooks Bros French Cuff shirt ($150), Johnston and Murphy wingtip shoes ($265), 18K cufflinks ($1500), 2 CT Diamond ring ($4,000), Two Tone Rolex Submariner Watch ($9,300) - and drove up in my nice Cadillac Deville. (+$).
We won. Part of the 'testimony' was me running videos on a laptop on the judges bench - with my 16613 8 inches in front of his nose while he watched the (very incriminating) 8 minute video on a computer. Beyond the fact that that our case was overwhelmingly in our favor....do you think the Sub had any positive effect? ????????

In general. No. Of course, you have some leeway as a witness. But in general, no. Not as a lawyer (for either side, really). And never, EVER, as a defendant.

I'm often told that we have a "somewhat" corrupt court system, so what do you reckon?
BTW, I spent $16 on dinner last night.

My guess is that the only effect the Sub had was that you knew what time it was.

I've won many cases wearing a Mens warehouse suit, Sketcher shoes, a cheap shirt with plastic buttons, no jewelry and just a SS Rolex. Drove my city owned Crown Vic to court. Not sure what the value of the things you were wearing and driving has to do the outcome of your case and why we would need to know, just wondering ?

Nice watch but I really doubt it had any impact on the outcome of the case.

Sometimes the Jury does not like to see that. Plain Joe the defendant against the big Government or Corporation.
Don't get me wrong, if they did the crime....So be it! Whoever prosecuted them spent the $$$ for the research or expertise, that is also a job. But if that is how you dress, there is no need to change. |

I think if you pose with a show of wealth of jewellery it may go against you subconsciously in that your testimony, depending on the case, may be considered in a somewhat different light.
Not sure if it good or bad. I'd try to win the case on its merits rather than what is on your wrist

Nope. The same results would have been had with a 200 dollar suit. But why look bad if you can look good right?? That's my motto. If it weren't my motto we would all be wearing Casio watches and 20 year old sneakers LOL.

A buddy of mine is a lawyer who represents insurance companies in court. He never wears a nice watch or overly expensive suits when going before a jury.

I would think that is the way to go with a jury trial. Clean, pressed, professional. Nothing to make the average joes/joe-ettes on the jury take notice. You're not scoring any points with the working class by looking like a rich guy that maybe needs to be taught a lesson in humility.

If you pawned all your stuff and the Sub....you could have gone in there with a gold Daytona. Sure...you would have been naked and those leather seats in the caddy would have been cold but.....A GOLD DAYTONA! Now that's impressive. 'Nuff said.
