Datejust TT, how to tell if it's fake?

We came across a Datejust TT watch. we believe it is a 116233 from years ago. there are no docs and it is worn, what's the easiest way to look at thewatch and tell if it's real. it has an jubilee bracelet. there's some numbers on the clasp, what do those mean?

thanks

When you say "years ago", how long ago would that be? The newer DJs were introduced just a couple of years ago.

Like Steve said, you'd best take it into an AD. Are you able to post some pics?

The nos. on the clasp are the part no. of the bracelet as well as the year and month of manufacture. Could you give us some more details please?

Cheers - JJ

Frankly, I don't trust ebay and never deal with them, nor ever will. The watch looks to be in very crappy condition and is definitely a very old model - going back a solid 15 years.

I would not take the risk without doing my homework on the seller.

A picture or two would help to ascertain the condition of your watch. Very difficult to go merely by description no matter how hard you try!!

sorry JJ, i dont have access to a camera right now, but the watch is not off ebay.

I just looked at it looks like the watch is from march of 1995.

on the clasp it says T3, BELOW THE STEELINOX, there is a number
62523H-18, do you know what that number means.

your link works wonders by the way, thanks JJ!

If you check the link I've given you, you will note that T = 1995 and 3 = March.

So that makes it March 1995. The other no.62523H is the bracelet part no. and the '18' means it's 18 K gold. Older models used 14 K gold and the part no. had '14' after it.

Also note that the bracelet part no. has a '3' on the end...which signifies steel/gold.

you are awesome JJ!

Thanks so much for helping with me. my last question before we take it to an AD for verification is.

1. do you guys know what the MSRP was back in 1995?
2. It has a little scatch on the front, will servicing the watch correct that? ( i know it's hard to tell without a picture)

3. At the curent state, is $3000 worth it for the watch if it is proven to be real.

thanks!

Not sure about 1. and 3. Hopefully, some of the other guys will help you out.

The scratch can easily be taken care of by a good watchmaker at Rolex...no worries.

Make sure the model no. is 16233. Do you have the watch serial no. letter prefix (you should find that on the right hand top corner of the Warranty Certificate). If you do, go check out my link....that will tell you the year of manufacture.

Good luck and do keep us updated.

Here's a picture of the inscribed model no. on the watch case at 12 o'clock. Naturally, the bracelet has to be taken off first.

Your watch, being a much older model, will NOT have the letter "T" you see inscribed after the model no. This "T" signifies that this particular model does NOT have the lug holes on the sides.

1. MSRP on my 16233 (see avatar), purchased in 1993 was $4500.
2. If the scratch is on the crystal (or anywhere else), Rolex Service Center would offer to replace/repair it.
3. Only you can answer this one.

Good Luck
