5711 date not align

I have a blue patek 5711 bought new last july 2012, i notice the date occasionally get misaligned but a gentle tap on the side of the watch fix the issue. I would like to know if this is a major issue that i have to have it fix immidiately or wait few more months before the warranty expire.

Best not to play around with these kind of things. Have it looked at now.

Frankly as a precaution, I'd pull the stem until I got it fixed.

5711

I have the exact same problem with you.
I bought my 5711/1A in Oct.2012.

At first 2 months I didn't wear it everyday so I didn't notice any problem.
on Jan. I noticed the same with yours I start to wear it everyday.
And found out it happened almost everyday.

I took it back to my AD,they said they have to send it back for adjust and test.
Its' almost 1 month now,and my watch haven't come back.

Others may see it differently but I would advise against it. I'm not sure what is wrong with your watch, but sometimes when the initial issue on a mechanichal watch is not addressed then other issues or parts can become damaged. This is because the parts that maybe affected work in conjuction with other parts.

I'm also not sure if your warranty might cover an issue which you may have actually caused yourself. For instance if you have been changing the date on your watch during the time when the date should not have been changed. Always best to do so at 06:30 in the morning. If you change it between 9:00 PM and 03:00 AM you can damage some of these parts.

Regardless of it being covered under warranty or not you could be damaging other parts. If this were not to be covered, and I'm not saying it wont be, then any part and specifically any more parts could cost quite a bit more.

So if nothing else as a precaution, I would at least take it to my Patek AD and have them advise me on what to do.

David, I've never experienced this issue on my 5711 or my 5167 and they both use the same movement.

It appears as this is two people on two seperate threads. The second thread was in refference to a PP5146 which wouldn't even use the same movement. With the two here, there is a total of three people experiencing the same problem using this particular movement. Unless I see something else, I see no reason to panic or assume it is a big problem.

Besides like I said this problem may have actually been user caused if you had done something you should not have done. Like changing the date between 9:00 PM and 03:00 AM.

Thanks for the info Dan

I know the cal 324 movement is very solid. I will have to take a double look at the date when viewing it next week

I've been wear automatic watch over 20 years.
I only change date during 7-8:00 AM.
I'm pretty sure the problem is on Patek.

Thank you.

They said after adjustment,it'll take 31 days to test if it works.

I would think they could easily test this by simply manually changing the time up and thru 31 days if they needed to. This would actually achieve the same thing.

Like Dan has already said, send it back, it will only be a minor issue with date sticking slightly. Some small adjustment will soon have it working correctly.

Lets not forget, that it is a mechanical machine and even the best has go wrong from time to time. Now if the problem was a regular occurence on the same watch, then that would be different!!.

Regarding the 5146, depending on the age of the watch, they were first fitted with the 315 movement. But then approx 5-6 years ago this movement was replaced with the 324.

Now that I've thought about it for awhile, something similar occurs with some Rolex watches from time to time.

If the watch was not oiled correctly then the date wheel will not turn properly. The fix with these Rolex watches was to manual adjust the time back and forth between before and after midnight a number of times then you could manually run through 31 days to ensure the date would change properly. The main difference here would be that a Rolex movement will change dates right at midnight but the Patek changes gradually if I remember correctly.

So I would still recomend taking your Patek in and having them look at it, but you may want to ask them if they can tell you what the actual issue is.

Good luck, and I hope your able to get it sorted out in short order no matter what it is.

Is this a problem with ALL 324 based movements including the annual calendars or just the 324 that's used in the 5711?

This is very upsetting since most of the "more affordable" models use a variation of 324.
