Rolex 6200 That Doesn't Say Submariner

Hey Everyone,

New To This Forum. I Do Own Several Nice Watches, Rolex, Doxa, Condor, Tissot And A Few Others. I Have A Friend That Has A Rolex Submariner That Does Not Say Submariner. I'm Wondering What This Time Piece Is Worth. It Is In Running Order, And Has Lots Of Scratches On Crystal, And Bezel.. Stamp 6200 And Does Have Serial Number.... I Can Get Some Pictures When I Get Back In Town. If Anyone Has Info Please Let Me Know. Someone Said This Was One Of The First Sub From The 30's Is This True.....and What Is Its Value? Thanks Scott.

Hello Scott

Well, the 6200 was the original Submariner. It was launched in 1953, had a depth rating of 200m (660ft) and fitted with the A.296 movement.

Early versions of the Submariner eg. 6200, 6204 and 6205 usually DID NOT have the word Submariner printed on the dial.

The early 6200's were fitted with the same Explorer dial (model 6298 and 6150) ie. 3-6-9, but later versions had the 'standard' Submariner dial we see today.

By late 1954 the word Submariner was printed on all Submariners.

If this watch is correct, it is quite valuable. I would say, depending on condition, dial type, originality etc. it would be worth in excess of US$30k. If watch has the original Rolex paperwork (guarantee card etc), then you'll be looking at US$40-50+.

Please post some pics.

John.

The 6200 is the rarest of all the Subs produced for the general public.

If it is all proper and correct it is a $50k + watch.

Expect the buyer to be discerning.

Welcome to TRF!

If it does not say "Submariner" it is really not worth so much.

Just have your friend send it to me since I can live with it not saying Submariner!

Got to agree with all above and now as rare as rocking horse S###.And except for one point the first mid 1953 6200 subs basically a uprated TOG were only rated to 100m,later in 1954 they were up-rated to 200m

I'm with Bo--it sounds fake. Besides, who wants to wear a Sub if nobody knows what it is?

Welcome!!
