Project Daytona Modificata

Hello,

I have a Stainless Steel Daytona with a Black dial, overall I like the look of the Daytona but not a fan of dials sans arabic numerals on SS models. I have had an itch for a long time to change out the dial to the WG model dials like the Black dial with arabic numerals and red etchings. Gladly I found out a fellow member who has them for sale including the red hands which is also something not easy to find for sale combined in new condition.

To this:

I consider this to be my holy grail rolex, unfortunately I cannot wear Gold because its not allowed in Islam. Not allowed i.e. on skin and not a problem if its a Dial or inside the glass of the watch.

So I am glad that I have it on the way and excited to modify my Daytona to my Liking.

The second picture is just for reference, I have yet to receive the parts I am just sharing my enthusiasm before the watch surgery takes place :)

I really like that particular WG dial among a few others. IMO, this mod is a must if I have an SS Daytona.

Thank you guys, I like the stick dials on Audemars Piguet like my avatar but not on a Daytona. Will post pictures once its done, hoping for a smooth customs clearance and a quick journey to my doorstep.

One of the beauties of the Daytona is that there are some many lovely dials to choose from.

Always loved that dial with red hands, why spend 20k when you can have it for 12 k, nobody can tell the difference!

I am not thinking about the cost, if you read my initial post its that I don't wear gold(religious reasons) thats why I am modifying it to suite my liking.

Au contraire, it's very easily discernible as SS.

agree - anyone who's knowledgeable about the daytona line (or hangs around these areas...) should be able to tell the difference, assuming they're close enough to observe the bezel, or if they actually handle the watch.

Either way - you'll have what you are looking for... At the right price.

Just make sure the swap is done by a watchmaker with the proper
Equipment. For good measure swap gaskets and do a fresh pressure test
Too. Good luck.

I am not sure if they sell that part alone, I would be fine with the dial and hands as they are things that I want in my Daytona I am fine without the WG model.

That's the first time I see a WG bezel on a SS Daytona. Very interesting to say the least.

Love the look the new dials give the SS Daytona. Question: Does the WG bezel show scratches faster than SS bezel? I'd think the gold was softer than steel, and the bezel seems to be an area that gets brushed/banged against objects during daily wear. Thanks!

Yes gold is softer and all things being equal will scratch easier but it's more about the wearing habits of the owner.

Personally, I don't mind swapping dials but I'd draw the line at the bezel. Given the costs, I'd just as soon buy a gold Daytona at that point.

The OP stated that it's actually gold on the skin that he can't wear so within the watch is fine
