Sold my SAR and now they are classic!! Still have a JSAR mod with a eta 2824automatic! Big watch, same case as the CSAR and they wear bigger than their specs! To pull one off you've got to like big pieces!

That's a very cool mod, Trevor. Who installed the ETA?
I'd love to examine the JSAR and CSAR in person. Bet those are big muthas.

Quick report:

My SAR has just arrived from County Comm.
5 days from the date of order (CA to KY).
I like it just as when I tried one on at KY GTG last week.
It looks great on my 6 3/8" wrist.
To my surprise the original rubber strap is not bad at all (I had to use the last notch as usual).
It's made of soft natural rubber and feels great.
I'm going to clean my Koi pond tomorrow.

Dan, thanks.
You'll need to wait on "Nylon Nation" for a while as I like this rubber strap.

The rubber strap is comfortable but it gets hot after a while and never holds the watch in place for me. But I know, as a good soldier, we'll see that SAR on a nato soon.

Got the Marathon TSAR about a year ago....REALLY like it. I was impressed with the bracelet....seems bulletproof.

Can't think of a better tool watch...seems pretty indestructable.

Bummer news

SAR is a great watch...though I'll have to admit, I've never chosen to wear the SAR over my Sub. With the same functionality and basic look, I'll choose the Sub on my wrist every time.

Here's a pic of my two together. Maybe I should give it a try for old-time's sake.

Joji,
CONGRATS! my friend. im excited to see that you have one! i knew you would like it. i forgot to mention that the OEM rubber strap is great. high quality italian rubber (vanilla scent). very plyable as well. but if you like the deployment i hope you got a maratac strap as well. if you swap the strap sometimes those OEM spring bars can be a bitc# to get out. they are SUPER heavy duty and require some technique and a little muscle to get out. just take your time.

please enjoy your SAR and wear it well. you will be hard pressed to find a better watch for the price and im banking unless you run into Dan or I you wont see one on anyone elses wrist. very unique and scarce piece for sure! ENJOY!

Can anyone provide info on the strap in the pic, and possibly a place to obtain it in the UK?

Thanks!

Yes. In fact I ordered it from the UK. Check out www.gasgasbones.com . Carl will make them to your specs and with quick turn around.

Thanks Dan, just been on the website and there's a notice stating they're on a temporary shut down but with no indication of when they'll re-open.

Just my luck, but thanks again for the info :)

Wow, I hope the current inventory of SARs lasts just a little longer--I'd love to have one but won't be in the market for another watch for a while!

the marathon watches are definately some of my favs... sorry to see the sar go, but maybe it will be replaced with something just as nice.

i have some photos of the jsar compared to the gmt 2 in this thread

http://www.rolexforums.com/showpost....66&postcount=5

i currently wear it on a zulu strap, and its huge. i just ordered a big chunky leather strap for it too, should be here in 2 weeks or so...
