Came across this watch on the net. I just thought I'd share the pics. Maybe someone can identify it for me. I have no idea of it's origin or authenticity. I really think it's beautiful. Strange date indicator on the outer edge of the dial.

Ref. 8171.From 1949 to 1952, 1000 examples in yellow or 18K pink gold were produced, as well as some in stainless steel. This reference 8171 is called 'Padellone' by Italian collectors.

It's a $25.00 fake of a rare Rolex Moonphase. It's a horrible fake. Hurts my eye to look. :thumbsdow =) maverick

How can you tell? The only thing that looks fishy to me is the auto movement but fakes dont normally go to the effort of copying the movement.

The coronet is the big give away for me.

Read the dial and compare them, maybe its fitted with some aftermarket, but its more likely that its fake.

These vintage watches changed from month to month so its hard to say whats fake and whats not but if it is a fake thats a impressive movement!

respectfully, i see nothing in the original photos to indicate a fake.

go here: http://catalog.antiquorum.com/catalog.html

do a search for rolex 8171 and you will see several examples with stick indices and which look indistinguishable.

not saying 100% real. not saying its fake but can't dismiss it out of hand as a cheap copy. BTW... the crown is correct for an 8171

Oh yes, the Rolex movement is faked. I have seen them mainly in Sub and SD. I have seen that Perpetual Watch above and its not a fake, but the Worst Rolex I have ever seen besides that Leopard Daytona.

You don't like the 6202 Black Star? How about this one Mikey? I always thought these were sharp! Nothing I could dream of having though.:banghead: 6236 JCK

The dial looks too good, like new. The OCC printing looks funky to me. I question the wavy pattern on the subdial of the first one. It may be real but I would not buy it w/o a lot more inspection.
If I am wrong it wouldn't be the first time. That dial is too easy to fake. JMHO =) maverick
