The Buffalo Zoo is nice if you're into that.
There is no shortage of great restaurants in Buffalo, be sure to try some of the locals. My favorite is Chef's on Seneca St (Italian). Order the spaghetti parm as either an entrée or an appetizer.
Bring your passport and cross the bridge to Niagara Falls, Canada. The Candian side is spectacular. Close by is the butterfly conservatory which is an indoor collection of many species of butterfly's in their natural habitat. It's a great way to spend a few hours and is relatively inexpensive.

If you're interested in the Arts and Crafts movement, there's the interesting Roycroft Inn and surrounding artisan complex in East Aurora, a suburb of Buffalo.

And a very good art museum that I haven't been able to visit yet (closed on Mondays) but would like to:

I used to go to Buffalo twice a month for business. No offense that live there but it's the saddest city I know of ( and I travel to Cleveland and Detroit too!)

A visit to Buffalo wouldn't be complete without trying Anchor bar and Duffs for wings. I prefer Duffs

The Anchor Bar is the birthplace of chicken wings and the now famous Buffalo Sauce. From an historical perspective it's worth the stop.

Niagara on the Lake, as suggested by Justin, is worth the short trip if you are already on the Canadian side. It's a beautiful Canadian village located where the Niagara River empties into Lake Ontario. On a clear day you can see downtown Toronto from the shore area.

I agree. Anchor bar sucks, Duff's is 10x better!

If you are in Buffalo for a week take a day trip or an overnight to Toronto. Great theatre, restaurants, art galleries, museums... whatever you want. Sports teams are a bit weak but we live in hope.

Like everyone said...unless you want wings the best part of Buffalo...is CANADA. Niagara on the lake is really nice. A couple yacht clubs to dine at and a ton of winerys to try. Buffalo has a lot of places to dine. Wings go to Duffs NOT anchor Bar. Teds has a great chargrilled hot dog. Depending on dining Olivers is a nice place for a more formal setting and for informal its about everywhere else in the city. As for the city its crappy. You would most enjoy the suburbs like Amherst and Williamsville. If you want a list of things to do or see let me know. I can put one together for you. As for what everyone else said they are dead on. Enjoy Buffalo as much as you can atleast...lol

Also if you are into the more trendy type of neighborhood and foods try Elmwood Ave. They have great bars and neat restaurants. Ranging from all vegan to all eastern european serving things such as cow brain and pig intestine. But all great places.

That's about as honest an assessment as I've read. Buffalo is an ok place and has some things to offer, but it's far from being "big time". Rochester, where I live, is much the same, only smaller.
I liked your recommendation of Oliver's. I've not been there but I've heard really good things. What about Tempo? The Bills took Mario Williams there, I believe, when they were courting him. Good place?

Ex-western new yorker

Teds hot dogs (get the onion rings), niagara falls, niagara on the lake (shaw festival if you are into that sort of thing), buffalo chop house is good, a place on grand island I forget the name of is good, a couple ok casinos, some decent golf.

Chipawa Street has the best clubs/bars.

Another ex-western NYer here. Go to Rochester instead. Go to Nick Taho's and get a Garbage Plate. That, my friend, is an experience and some good eatin!
