Hi all, i have a rolex oyster royal. any info on it would be much appreciated. i have benn given it by my dad who had been given it by my grandpa.

on the watch face it has on, rolex oyster royal, dobbies ltd, nairobi , precision.

i think that Dobbies Ltd was the original seller and they had their name printed on the dials. i dont think this necessarily makes this a 'military' watch though. its very nice!

Yep, that would have been then jeweler that retailed the watch. I think the jeweler might have been in Africa, there's also an example here:

So in regards to the watch itself, any ideas on its age? How well it will clean up ok? value?

Probably from the '30s/'40s. Not sure on value, but all I can say is don't do anything to the dial because that will diminish the value. All it needs is a crystal polishing a movement service and maybe even a case refinish.

I had a feeling it would be from around the 30/40s as my grandad was military police during the war. This is all new to me! I thought you would clean the dial up as it is a little dirty but I will certainly take your advise. What exactly is crystal polishing then?
