Hello Folks,

Been reading all of you for a long time, but just joined.

For some reason, have got an itch to buy a vintage Rolex. I was looking at the Steve McQueen model, and ended up doing a lot of research and contacting some of people in the Rolex forum community and trustworthy dealers highlighted in the forum. The costs ranged from $14,500 to $24,000 so thought I would bid my time and buy when the time and price becomes right.

That being said, I came across a Rolex 5513 that I am interested in. Being new to Rolexes, I have little knowledge and would appreciate your help.

Here are some photos of the Rolex.

Here is some information on the 5513, according to the seller:

Serial 2,7XXXXX (places it in 1970, but the owner bought it in 72
1520 movement
Acrylic crystal and bracelet new - last few months
Lightly polished, but only once.

I would appreciate your comments.

I doubt that - looks to have been polished a lot, to me. You may not mind that, but just saying, that's not the case (pun intended)

Welcome aboard!!
It has some stretch and polish, as stated. My question, is what are you going to do with it? Daily wear, hard use, baby it, ultimately flip it toward another watch? How much is it? Answer these and we can give you some suggestions. And then you can decide what works for you!

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for all of the advice. You have pointed things out that I did not consider.

I am buying it for my son for daily use.

The original owner has had it stored for 15 years, and recently got a new bracelet and crystal changed on it and serviced by a watchmaker not affiliated with RSC. The old bracelet wore out, and he did not keep it. No paper work. He is asking $5300 US.

That is a little high, IMHO. If it had been serviced by RSC and had papers.....since it doesn't and is daily wear for your son, I'd keep looking. I have recently picked up a 5513 about like that one from a seller here for $800 less. Just my advice. It may take a couple of weeks or so, but they pop up regularly. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the advice and warm welcome. What a great forum.

I'll keep looking for a vintage watch - for me.

The reason being I today bought my kid a new Sub Date from an AD. He doesn't know it yet, but will tomorrow.

That bracelet is waaaay off, the endlinks, the polished sides. The clasp might be the real deal, but not period correct.
Welcome BTW.Youll find the right one:cheers:
