It's been a long road to land my vintage 1680.... (I won't elaborate here. :) )..... I just got her back from service and she is my favorite rollie so far. I've got a newer SD, and 80's Sub, and a 60's GMT..... and this 1680 just takes the cake.

Anyone else here fond of the ole-workhorse?

I don't know if it's the LOUD distinctive 1575 hack mechanism, or the huge plastic crystal, or the MATT Dial...... but this thing just screams to me :)

My favorite of the Subs.
The 1680, represents what some would say the last of the true vintage Subs.
Manufactured circa 1967 to 1980 (Red and White), the 1680 was the first Sub to carry a date feature and the only watch to proudly wear that unique crystal.

My 1680 had a recent full service/restoration with all new parts. Some don't like that approach, but I really enjoy a new watch from the 1970's that keeps < 1 second per day accuracy and lights like a candle at night....

I can't get enough of mine.
And even though it's got stiff competition, it still wins out on wrist time.

Cheers,

I have my father’s 1680/8 from early 1970s. Serviced by RSS 2009 or so. I’d like to have it serviced but retain the dial/ hands/etc. Who should I use? I’ve heard good and bad about the RSS.

Here's an in-depth thread on an RSC 1680 resto. It's a few years old, and long, but a lot of good info:

You might need to go outside of Rolex for service if you want to be sure you retain the original parts, depending on condition.
