All the advice above is spot on. What I can add after 20 years of owning Rolex only, is that find the perfect watch for you and then the quest can stop! In the last 8 years I’ve bought and sold half a dozen, modern and vintage. Luckily, due to the market I was able to flip each at a profit. I bought a Panerai a couple of years ago and now own 2 Omega, a Seamaster 300mc and Tritium Speedmaster which satisfies my vintage urge. These are less valuable than many I’ve had, but they all get worn and enjoyed. Right now, nothing would change that. Plus they are all great ‘strap’ watches; far less costly than buying more watches! If my financial situation changes, the only addition would be a vintage Submariner.
