The numbers are related to the Brit military reference : The Broad Arrow on the case back and the dial match with the numbers refer to British military issue.The Omega SM300’s delivered to the British Navy had The MOD code on the case back 0552-923-7697 557-70 (70 was the date of the watch) The Rolex 5517/5513 had the code 0552-923-9697 199 -74 (74 would be date of watch)

The 007 62 date reference is likely because the first bond film was released in 1962
In 1962 the MOD was still called “The War Department” interestingly enough.

The original milsubs were issued via the Quartermaster or “Q” and were MOD property.
