Agreed, but the base rule is NO WATCH at all. You are supposed to be speaking to others and engaged in the event, not looking at a watch.

If you wear one, it should be a simple face and leather strap. That’s the old rules.

I still wear a gold watch with leather strap with a tux (with a suit, which is business attire, not formal attire, it does not matter but I wear a GMT and not my Sub).. just my choice to follow the old rule. Not that there are any black tie events these days...
