You forgot one piece of the puzzle: they just re-introduced Calibre 321, which is your "limited production for those who care about historically correct". Think about it, this was all part of the plan. They knew that upgrading to 3861 would irritate WIS collectors, so they brought their most iconic movement back from the dead.
